Most of the biggest indies are part of global production groups, while many smaller producers have minority investment from larger companies
for over 75% of total revenues in the survey in recent years. ITV Studios is the biggest of

the major production groups. It doesn’t take part in the P100 due to company policy, but its global footprint now spans 55 production labels in 13 countries, including The Voice creator Talpa in the Netherlands, Bodyguard maker World Productions in the U.K., and Snowpiercer producer Tomorrow Studios in the U.S. The biggest deal of the year
has been Banijay’s acquisition of the Endemol Shine Group, which finally wrapped in July. Banijay
he big indie groups and global studios dominate the Production 100, accounting
raised €2.378bn for the deal, and its production footprint now includes over 120 labels in 22 territories. Elsewhere, Sony has added to
its UK production operations with the acquisition of sports producer Whisper Films and Sex Education producer Eleven. Fremantle has folded its factual label Boundless into Naked Television. In general, however, deal-
making has been quiet in 2020. Coronavirus has clearly slowed the market, putting activity on hold. However, mergers and
acquisitions in the UK market in general have been relatively few and far between for a couple of years, with big firms showing a preference for seeding start-ups rather than splashy deals. This may change in the year
ahead, as companies hard hit by the coronavirus hiatus look for financial support from deep- pocketed backers.
