UNTOLD STUDIOS London creative studio


Untold Studios architected its facility to stream highly resource-intensive cloud computing workflows (virtual workstations, VFX rendering, transcoding, processing) from AWS over the FastLane. When lockdown


happened there was no change to its workflows. “Our productivity has not dropped at all,” says Sam Reid, Head of Technology. “The only difference now is that artists are using their own internet connectivity to the Studio. We created VPN connections from artists’ homes to the Studio, and from there the media travels as before over FastLane to AWS.”


SOLUTION: CLOUD STORAGE Many productions now


create hundreds of terabytes of camera RAW data, which needs to be moved from the production location through to post- production – which may be located on an entirely different continent. In such cases, FileStore+ eliminates any concern about connectivity or tools for file transfer. You then only need to think about the local distribution of files within the region, from your main office


location to those working from home – which can be accessed on a more ad-hoc basis. Files can be loaded directly

REAL-TIME REMOTE VFX SHOT REVIEW The most common ‘customer


shot review’ setup looks something like this: 1. Artists are working remotely


from home, with either a cloud- based virtual workstation, or remote connectivity into a virtual desktop infrastructure at the office. 2. They are protecting the


session with a VPN and are typically controlling the remote creative workstation with Teradici or HP RGS. 3. The artists typically move the


content that is to be reviewed with the customer to a workstation in the office, connected to a Flexbox. 4. The producer creates a Flex


session and invites the client to view the session, with a modern conferencing solution (such as Zoom, Teams or BlueJeans) to support their real-time feedback. 5. The client creatives are often


viewing the content via Apple TV on a large consumer TV that represents colour well. We recommend an LG C9 or CX model, which are very colour accurate out of the box.
