Eagle Claw starts fi rst phase of major new promotional campaign
R
euben Heaton Ltd, offi cial distributor for Eagle Claw brands in the UK and Ireland, has unveiled the fi rst stage of its dedicated Eagle Claw social media framework. The initial launch of the Eagle Claw Europe Facebook page, @EagleClawEurope will be followed further separate launches for dedicated Instagram #eagleclaweurope and Twitter @EagleClawEU feeds. Andrew Race, boss of Reuben Heaton, told T&G: “Having developed signifi cant interest in Eagle Claw brands via Reuben Heaton social media streams, it was felt that the weight of traffi c now warranted a separate media framework for all things Eagle Claw in the UK. “With Reuben Heaton’s involvement in national and European angling events having a positive effect for Eagle Claw brands outside the UK and Ireland, the decision was taken to launch the campaign with the title Eagle Claw Europe. “After an initial launch period, additional, more specialist pages and groups are anticipated depending on future product development and end user infl uences.” The new Eagle Claw social media streams will be supported by signifi cant investments in new infrastructure on the main Reuben Heaton web site
www.reubenheaton.com, including:
• Increased functionality for product searches and product information
• Improved functionality for the “Where to buy” retailer section enabling searches by geographic region or hook brand
• New front page for the Eagle Claw products section with separate social media feed
• Dedicated email for information
Andrew continued: “As part of our commitment to support the angling trade and independent retailers, pages will contain regular spotlights dedicated to individual Eagle Claw retailers, the products they stock and the events they hold. Together with regular product features and seasonal posts from pro-staff, our format is designed specifi cally to connect anglers with both retailer and brand and promote awareness of both.”

Home Offi ce set to introduce fees for Section 5 fi rearms licences
F
ees will be introduced on specialist fi rearms licences for the fi rst time to
reduce costs for UK taxpayers. The new fees will apply to Section 5
fi rearms, a category which includes the most dangerous types of guns, such as military grade weapons, in England, Wales and Scotland and are being introduced following a Home Offi ce consultation. Current licence holders include organisations such as manufacturers or dealers supplying the police or the army, and individuals such as gunsmiths carrying out the deactivation of prohibited weapons.
As part of the consultation, the Home Offi ce also reviewed licences
for shooting clubs and museums to possess fi rearms. As a result, fees for museums will be frozen because of the benefi t that they provide to the public, while fees for shooting clubs will increase.
Bill Harriman, BASC’s director
of fi rearms, commented: “The government appears to have listened to stakeholder concerns as the new fees are some 58 per cent lower than the consultation proposal. “The introduction of a graduated cost scale for variations that involve differing levels of police and government work is a welcome acknowledgment of an issue raised in stakeholder meetings.”
