iceTackle* dates set for 18-20th February 2020

L

eeda has announced the dates for its iceTackle* 2020 trade-only event. The Milton Keynes-based manufacturer and distributor again runs the multi-brand show in the third week of February, with doors opening between Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th. Now in its sixth year, the event will return to the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, the impressive venue that is part of the MK Dons football stadium complex. Still in its planning stages, new

product information is being kept under wraps for now, but the event looks to once again bring together the key brands from its portfolio to showcase new and existing products and offer a wide range of dealer- focussed incentives, offers and interactive services. A pole alley has been confirmed – this was a huge draw for retailers to try the full range of TKS poles at the 2019 event – and there will once again be the chance

BASC secures coastal shooting

T

he British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) has worked with Natural England and the Crown Estate to secure over 32,000 acres of coastal land on behalf of English clubs.

The land has helped a 12 consents and

renew six leases in England. Over half of the consents were issued for eight years or more, with the majority achieving the maximum of 10 years permitted under the current legislation. James Green, BASC’s head of wildfowling, said: “The work undertaken by the department for the benefit of wildfowling across the country is simply staggering. To see the figures at the end of a busy year makes it all worthwhile. “It has been a pleasure to assist so many forward-thinking clubs. To have so many long-term English consents is testament to the amount of work and professionalism shown by all involved. We are already looking ahead towards the next round of consents; this area of our work is essential to ensure the sport of wildfowling can be secured for future generations. Among the notable achievements was a new 10-year consent on just over 317 acres of coastal marshes on the Blackwater Estuary; and the reintroduction of shooting on nearly 17,000 acres of The Wash.”

Labour Party ‘Deeply Ignorant’

T

he Labour Party has released its Animal Welfare Manifesto. The 10-page document includes a number of proposals that could severely impact on shooting. Proposals include: the banning of keeping gamebirds in cages, proposals that regulate the use of dogs in fox control, a ban on snaring and the removal of an exemption that allows terriers to kill foxes to protect gamebirds. Tim Bonner, chairman of the Countryside Alliance, said that it was “in parts a deeply ignorant document”. “The document contains a commitment to ‘implement an independent review into the economic, environmental and wildlife impacts of driven grouse shooting and model alternatives’,” says Tim. “Although as the shadow secretary of state, Sue Hayman, has already decided that ‘there are viable alternatives to grouse shooting, such as simulated shooting and wildlife tourism’ it is difficult to see how any review is going to be particularly independent.”

about the event and new accounts are also being encouraged to sign up so they can see what working with Leeda, one of the UK’s biggest tackle firms, can offer businesses in the coarse, game, carp and sea sectors.

Target Shooting at Stoneleigh

A

dedicated target shooting show will debut at Stoneleigh’s National Agricultural Exhibition Centre at Stoneleigh later this month. The Target Shooting Show debuts 16-17 November and covers all parts of target shooting – from airguns through to big caliber rifles. The show spawned from the Practical Shooting Show, which was based in Exeter.

Organisers of the event say that other fairs and events mainly showcase hunting and field sports – with few catering for the dedicated target shooter. “Naturally there is a huge cross over between hunters and target shooters in the guns, equipment and accessories we use, and there will be plenty to see and buy at the show for all shooters,” stated a show spokesperson. The Target Shooting Show will

promote Small-bore Rifle, CSR, F Class, HFT, FT, Bench Rest, Long Range Precision, Target Pistol, Air Gun, Practical, Clays, Black Powder, Classic Arms, Action Air, Airsoft and more. Visit www.targetshootingshow.co.uk to find out more.
