Wychwood sinks its teeth into predator fi shing market

Wychwood has refreshed a key part of its portfolio with new 2019 Agitator predator rods - T&G takes a closer look...

W

ychwood’s Agitator range has sat quietly in its catalogue for several years but for 2019 the Milton Keynes-based brand has given it a shot in the arm just in time for predator fi shing season and the results look great. Given a fresh new look – purple whippings and detailing all round – this separates the products from Wychwood’s carp and game offerings. The rods bring together a real mix of traditional (cork handles anyone?) with the modern, especially on the drop shot rods that are really paired-back when it comes to contact points. Drop shot fi shing is taken

care of with a selection of light rods, including two that feature interchangeable tips (denoted by the ’TT’ moniker). They’re all about balance in the hand; the abbreviated handle, super-light

blank and the unlock reel seat have all ben designed to make the ultra-comfortable for what is one of the most feel-driven form of fi shing. There’s also a Series 1 reel to match these rods that come pre-loaded with matching purple braid; these are available in three sizes. For more traditional predator

fi shing, there’s a series of cork- handled lure rods that come in lengths between 7ft and 9ft. Two of the models are capable of casting up to 100g, so large, hard lures for pike can be fi shed. Braid- friendly guides feature throughout and that’s something carried over onto the accompanying bait fi shing trio. Those rods are very much all about backbone for casting heavy deadbaits and come in 10ft and 12ft lengths, covering 3lb and 3.25lb test curves.

“Historically, Agitator rods have always been a good seller for us,” cites marketing manager, Pat MacInnes. “We just felt it was time to give the range a freshen-up and ultimately, it’s a collection that has room to grow and expand to other products such as consumables, accessories and soft goods. It’s currently at a price tier that’s attractive to predator fi shing fi rst-timers and those who trust the Wychwood name.” The Agitator range is available to

order now through leedab2b.co.uk and will be on show at iceTackle* 2020, Leeda’s annual trade event that has been announced to run in February next year.
