Maximum Performance - Minimum Pack Down Size!

This month sees the launch of the first in a new range of groundbreaking portable carp rods from Sonik. Is this the dawn of a new era for carp rod design?

T

he design brief for the XTRACTOR RECON rods was simple - to deliver 8’ and 12’ rods that utilise a double retractable butt section to minimize transport length whilst maximising the performance of the blank. “The results will challenge your expectations about what is possible with compact retractable butt carp rod design,” says a delighted Ian McCormack, Sonik’s commercial director. And he has every right to be happy – the new rods look to be a real winner! “Combining the double retractable butt with a new VARI-TAPER™ construction, we have produced rods that both look and feel like their two- section predecessors. Anglers who are looking for top level performance and ultimate convenience no longer need to compromise.” The first models to be available this month are the XTRACTOR 8’ rods, which have an incredible pack down size of only 30”. This means anglers can use a truly portable rod that will fit into any car boot, footwell or indeed aircraft locker, but once assembled gives a versatile and adaptable rod suitable for many situations. They feature a longer

style handle and 40mm ringing pattern which both aid in casting and playing fish. Like all XTRACTOR rods they have a satisfying progressive action lending them to be perfect for all forms of carp fishing. Ian adds: “At only 30-inch pack down length, these could very well be the travel rods anglers have been waiting for meaning they can keep a set at hand for whenever a fishing opportunity arises.” The 8’ version is available in three test curves – 2.5lb, 3lb and 3.5lb. In addition to the 8’ models, Sonik has utilised the same technology and design to produce a 12’ rod that gets around the problem of transporting or shipping long rod sections. Packing down to only 50-inches with a full-length handle and 50mm guide pattern these rods offer a ‘no-compromise’ solution for performance carp rods. Available in three test curves to cover a wide variety of fishing situations, they have the potential to redefine the perception of a 12’ carp rod. Building on the phenomenal success of the XTRACTOR range, Sonik is also stepping up the performance to a new level with the launch in January

2020 of the stunning new INSURGENT series. These utilise the latest high modulus Toray carbon fibre blanks, giving an incredible slim, light and powerful blank action that is sure to appeal to anglers who want the best. “The casting action on these rods

is incredible, with a fast tip response and hidden power reserve in the butt section,” explains Ian. “They will be available in five models ranging from 9’ 2.75lb, 3lb and 10’ 3lb, 3.25lb and 3.5lb versions, each with the single retractable butt section they also have 44” and 50” transport lengths. In addition, there is the INSURGET RECON 12’ rods with double retractable butt sections, which offer a serious alternative to traditional two-piece carp rods and have the credentials to prove it. Also incorporating a multi-directional tip section carbon lay-up which further enhances tip speed and accuracy, these rods are a real game changer and look set to become a major focus for dealers and anglers alike in 2020.
