In 2003 Laurie was elected President and made a Life Honorary Vice President in 2010. Asked about his views on

the changes that had taken place in the meat trade during his lifetime, Laurie was most concerned about European Union regulation, food safety matters and Official Veterinarians replacing Environmental Health Officers and Meat Inspectors, who had led the continent in meat inspection for so many years. Always available to help

and offer advice, Laurie believed that the future for a ‘good’ butcher was always secure. And, being a lifelong National Federation member, failed to understand how anyone outside of the NFMFT could manage their business without the wealth of advice and support, just a telephone call away that membership provides. A valued colleague and loyal

friend, Laurie will be missed by all who knew him. n
