CRAFTBUTCHER l NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2018 15 FIRST-TIME NCB ENTRANT CROWNED
SUPREME SAUSAGE CHAMPION At the 30th annual Great
Yorkshire Meat Products Competition, held at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford in November B&M Collins Butchers of Cleckheaton, were crowned supreme pork pie champions. However, it was NCB
member and first time entrant Stephen Connor, of Woods the Butchers in Knutsford
that scooped the Supreme Sausage title with their ham and marmalade sausage, a particular favourite with Woods’ customers. Woods the Butchers, first
established in 1936 and in the hands of Mr Connor for the past 15 years, picked up a notable double in the sausage section by also winning the thick pork
sausage competition class and receiving the Ripon Select Foods Shield from the company’s sales executive Adele Ramsden. “We are over the moon to
have done so well at our first attempt in this high-profile competition. To be chosen as Supreme Sausage Champions is the icing on the cake,” said a delighted Mr Connor, who was accompanied by his wife Dot, a director of the business. Te win also entitles
Mr Connor entry into the prestigious 2019 Champion of Champions Sausage Competition. Other NCB members

celebrating on the day were D J Fenton, who picked up the New Kid on the Block award with a Lincolnshire Pork Sausage and Geo Middlemiss who were awarded the Reserve Champion Pork Pie title. n
ALLAN BENNETT DOES IT AGAIN! At the English Winter Fair
meat products competition held at the County Showground Stafford in November Allan Bennett once again showed his pedigree in picking up the award for Best Product in Show with his honey & mustard sausage.
