CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF NCB MEMBERS Our congratulations to NCB members who have recently been rewarded for their craſt and innovations in producing award winning
products in these prestigious competitions. It was celebration time as the
winners of the 2018 UK Sausage Week competition were unveiled on 29th October during a sizzling celebration lunch at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.
Butchers going on to be crowned UK Supreme Sausage Champion for its Free Range Pork Breakfast Sausage. Around 500 different
sausages were entered into
rather than only pork was an excellent move. Troughout the judging we tasted everything from turkey through to venison and some of the flavour combinations
week-long UK Sausage Week initiative. Butchers, manufacturers, retailers and associations across the UK hosted their own sausage events, special promotions, competitions and tastings across the campaign. An extensive selection

Week kicked off with a bang (or banger!) when awards were presented for some of the country’s best sausages. Host Sophie Grigson,
known for her cookery books and regular television appearances, presented the 27 winners with their certificates. Te event saw six NCB

the competition and were judged at Te Regional Food Academy, Harper Adams University, by Institute of Meat CEO Keith Fisher, Q Guild of Butchers manager Claire Holland, members of Ladies In Pigs and other industry experts. Chief judge Keith Fisher

BEST SMALL SHOPS AWARDS The Small Shops
Competition reception was hosted by Ruth George MP at the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion on 13th November. The occasion saw 25 shortlisted retailers from book sellers, cycle traders and news agents to hairdressers and community shops assembled, all vying for the title Best Small Shops Award. Other attendees included representatives from members of the
Independent Retailers Confederation. Competition was fierce
with the title going to Mainstreet Trading, a Café, Deli & Home shop in St Boswells, Scottish Borders so our congratulations to them, but we would also like to congratulate Morgan’s Butchers for making it to the final line up and in doing so shining a light on craft butchers everywhere. n
