MICRON BIO-SYSTEMS B u i l d i n g I n n e r Strength for Improved Performance Using the company core competencies of microbiology, biochemistry, enzymology and immunology Micron Bio-Systems have built a range of nutraceutical products that support health and performance through their activity within the gut lumen, interactions with the gut wall and support of the immune system: • IMMUGUARD combines purified β glucan, a stimulator of the immune system, with bioactive ingredients derived from yeast that produce positive effects on the growth of probiotic bacteria such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacterium. The inclusion of Mannan- oligosaccharides (MOS) helps to further reduce the risk of disease by binding potentially pathogenic bacteria, preventing their colonisation of the intestinal wall. In addition, Immuguard acts as a substrate for the growth of beneficial bacteria in the hind gut, helping to prevent the establishment of pathogenic colonies. Positive effects of feeding Immuguard have been found in poultry, pigs and calves – particularly during the immunity gap. • ROBUSTA is a complementary feed material designed to maintain an optimal gut microbiome, and the integrity of the gut mucosa. Components which help to reduce the oxidative stress that is common

in modern, high performance birds and animals are also included. Together these all lead to improved growth performance. • MOS bind and limit the colonisation of intestinal pathogens as well as providing support for mucosal immunity, digestion and general performance. • Gluconic acid is included for its prebiotic effects – it is poorly absorbed in the small intestine of monogastrics and is primarily fermented to butyric acid in the large intestine. Butyrate has high antibacterial activity against pathogens such as Salmonella spp. and E. coli, and it also plays a key role in intestinal integrity, helps keep tight junctions closed and modulates intestinal inflammation. As a preferable source of energy for enterocytes, butyric acid positively influences villi development, intestinal tract health, and growth performance • The intestines of farm livestock are thought to be in a state of constant inflammation and this must be contained if animals and birds are to remain healthy, show rapid growth performance or egg production. The inclusion of carefully selected polyphenols, with the ability to scavenge free radicals, reduces the risk of inflammation in the gut which could impair its function and integrity as well as jeopardise growth performance.
