“I think one of the things I’ve learned through all of my travels is that the biggest barrier to electro mobility is human mindset; and that is something you can extend to so much other stuff when we decide what we can and what we can’t achieve. If you research something properly, believe in the unbelievable, and equip yourself with knowledge rather than conjecture, almost anything is possible!”


Ramsey undertakes his swatch of electric vehicle challenges under the guise Plug In Adventures; and in a market where awareness and acceptance of the technology has become part of our everyday lives, the popularity of what the Scotsman is looking to achieve will only increase from here on.


His brand has already worked with some of the industry’s biggest businesses and brands, such as BMW and Jaguar, and of course current partners Nissan. He has also advised and worked with leading government organisations and global media outlets, including Transport Scotland, BBC, CNN, Sky News, ITV, Channel 5, and Discovery Channel.


“Exploration for me is about achievement, sure, but it’s much more important than that,” he continues. “For me, exploration should factor in knowledge, and it should always come with a willingness to learn.

“In many respects, nothing has changed, and we are still doing that today, albeit not all to the extremes I do!”


The application of EV technology into yachts has begun, although the ability for us to talk about marine craft in the way we do road vehicles is clearly still some distance away. Indeed, a superyacht can make its way through over 500 gallons or marine diesel in just an hour travelling at 35 knots, and replace that with electric power is impossible.


The solution, in part, undoubtedly lies in hybrid propulsion systems and fuel-efficient hull designs. It’s estimated that better yacht design can help reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 per cent. Furthermore, the revolutionary Solarwave yacht, launched in 2016, one be powered entirely by solar panels, has made waves, literally and metaphorically; and yet the scaling up of this into a workable eco solution is some way off.


“We are always looking for different options that mean sustainable travel and the reinforcement of the EV principle,” says Ramsey. “I hope over time we’ll learn that it doesn’t all have to be about short trips to the shops or long adventures between the poles,” says Ramsey. “There is so much in between, on land and, I’m sure, on water, that can keep our planet healthy, whilst keeping us moving forward.
