SAVE THE MED
The Save the Med Foundation is a grassroots organisation formed by a devoted team of professionals and passionate volunteers. The objective: to regenerate the Mediterranean Sea, one of the world’s most fragile marine environments.
The team is composed of marine biologists, environmental educators, professional divers, social entrepreneurs, underwater photographers and more. Their collective vision for the future is a clean and healthy Mediterranean Sea, cared for by the local community. The organisation plans to achieve this by bringing together multidisciplinary and like-minded groups, to regenerate both land and sea.
The clock is ticking on the Mediterranean ecosystem - there’s no time like the present to come together and tackle the issues that threaten the environment, but Save The Med believes it’s important to “zoom out” for a second and gain perspective. “We cannot just focus on a small piece of the puzzle and hope the threats to the ecosystem will magically go away. We need to collaborate, involve everyone in the process of healing and regeneration,” explains Brad Robertson, president of the Foundation.
The Save the Med Foundation focuses on marine regeneration and pollution reduction, achieved through a variety of community initiatives, events, workshops and educational programmes carried out throughout the year, most of them are free and available to all.
One large part of the work is conducting surveys at sea and collecting reliable scientific data that will help inform and guide the programmes. Save The Med collaborates with individuals, schools, businesses, NGOs and governmental institutions through the following programmes:
EDUCATION PROJECTS
Dos Manos - Not just a beach clean The “Dos Manos” workshop is offered for free to schools around Mallorca. It includes a hands-on beach survey and plastic pollution workshops run by Save The Med’s education team. It’s not just a simple beach clean, but a citizen-science project gathering data on plastic pollution along the Mallorcan coastline, with a solution focused narrative, helping kids gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of plastic pollution, and its effects on the ecosystem.
