New Zealand’s oldest rocks are over 500 million years old, and were once part of Gondwanaland. This massive super-continent started to split up about 160 million years ago, and New Zealand separated from it about 85 million years ago.
REVENUE GOALS New Zealand as the main South Pacific charter and refit base to international superyachts and cruising yachts is a large part of the country’s export strategy. This approach is on track to achieve an export revenue goal of NZ$1.4 billion by 2030.

To supply the needs of over 2 million boaters, there are over 1,500 marine businesses from local builders, engine suppliers, retailers, service providers and importers. There are 215 marinas or yacht harbours, 11,700 marina berths or slips and 260 boat ramps. The charter boat business is booming for over 40 charter companies, offering upwards of 500 boats.
THE WATER’S EDGE
New Zealand has over 15,000 kilometres of beautiful and varied coastline. In the far north and on most of the east coast of the North Island you’ll find long sandy beaches perfect for swimming, surfing and
sunbathing. The North Island’s west coast has dark sandy beaches. The north of the South
Island has some beautiful sandy beaches, while the coastline around the rest of the South Island is wilder and more rugged.
New Zealand has around 600 islands. Most Kiwis don’t even know this fact about New Zealand! The main ones are of course the North Island and South Island. There’s also Waiheke Island, Stewart Island and Chatham Island. Most of the islands are incredibly small, in the middle of a lake or even sunken!
