Smiths opens in Leeds

Blackpool-based Smiths Equipment Hire has opened its 12th depot with a new facility in Leeds, its first in Yorkshire. The location is situated on a trading estate in Gildersome, just off junction 27 of the M62.

Pictured, from left, are Directors Lee, Mark and Fred Stuart,

with Sales Manager Tony Quinn and Operations Manager Chris Lynch, who are establishing Stuart Energy. Fred Stuart was one of the original founders of Mather & Stuart in Wigan, which was sold to A-Plant two years ago. The Show enabled them to look at the latest machines from HGI

(Harrington Generators International) in the 30kVA to 100kVA power class. Lee Stuart said the new business will be based in the north west of England and that it plans to start operations with a fleet of 160 machines, rising to 300 next year.

service, having also won this Award in 2005 and being a runner-up in 2015.

7 The Leeds depot will offer a wide range of tools and equipment,

Vp’s Brandon acquisition cleared by CMA

As we went to press, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced that it has concluded its investigation and has cleared the completed acquisition by Vp of Brandon Hire Group Holdings. Vp originally announced the deal on 8 November, as we

reported in our November/December issue. We commented then that Vp believed this was an excellent acquisition, dovetailing with its Hire Station tool hire business. As Brandon operates from 143 locations and Hire Station has 58 outlets, this will significantly increase Vp’s presence in the market.
