EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW continued

Hire Station placed some substantial orders at the Show.

MD Brian Sherlock, pictured (right) with Purchasing Manager Paul Smith, told EHN:

“ “ We have bought 300 podiums from Lyte

Ladders & Towers with a 1.2m platform height, and a further 200 with 1.5m platforms. They have been designed to conform to the new BS 8620 standard that covers this kind of equipment, and they can go through a standard doorway. They also don’t require any ballast to be added at the bottom for stability and are lightweight. We are replacing older podiums in our fleet and we are keeping up with industry changes and innovations.

Joe Nearn from Flying Hire, second left, on the AEM Gensets stand I was really impressed by AEM’s Rental Range 2.0 sets with

SuperSilence sound-proofing. The noise attenuation is excellent, which is important for our customers in the events and film production industries. I was particularly interested in the 100kVA machines. There are also Compact versions that have a narrower width to enable two to be loaded side-by-side on a truck for more efficient delivery.

Hire Station Regional Director, Phil Jones (left), did a deal at the Show with Hire Supply Co’s Gary McWilliam

“ “ We placed an order worth

£70,000 for more Barreto 1320 rotavators, and we have also bought additional Compaq post hole borers. We already have these machines in our fleet, and these new models will supplement them.

Allan Ross from MacGregor Industrial Supplies

I was very interested in

Arcotherm’s new Road Tow Heaters. Being completely self-contained machines with an on-board generator and lighting, they can be set up on site very quickly in emergency situations. Sometimes with conventional units, if you run extension leads it can result in voltage drops. I was also interested in the generators displayed by AEM. I have been coming to hire

industry Shows for 28 years at venues in London, Birmingham and Coventry. I flew down from Aberdeen on the Tuesday and went back on Friday, as you really need two full days to do the event justice.

Brett Thompson, centre, Steve Kay, left, and Shaun Baber were among no fewer than nine personnel from Alide Hire Services who attended the Show. Brett told EHN:

“ Well done, once again, to the Executive Hire Team for a fantastic Show.

The Alide Hire posse thoroughly enjoyed our visit. As always, our aim was to visit as many stands as possible and shake hands on special deals. We certainly achieved this, with sizeable orders presented to Snorkel and Genquip Groundhog, followed by a ‘Show only’ deal with Forst (Redwood Global) for a ST6P wood chipper, promptly delivered the following Monday.

The Innovation Trail provided ideas for this year’s capital investment, with a number of items already added to our wish list. Thanks for two great days.

Ken Stewart of GAP I love the Show.

It’s easy to get to. I flew from Glasgow to Birmingham and then picked up a hire car. The great thing is that you can see so many suppliers in one place, and everyone is so passionate about what they do. A lot of companies obviously make a considerable effort and investment in participating at the event, designing and manning their stands, and it is only right that hirers should come and support it, too.
