Product innovation - EXECUTIVE REPORT

Hilti's new vacuums provide live info about container capacity and filter status. However, its semi-autonomous 'Jaibot' is bound to be the real head-turner at EHS.

Executive Hire Show. This includes the UK launch of ‘Jaibot’, a semi-autonomous mobile robot designed for ceiling drilling. Jaibot is programmed using building information modelling (BIM) data, which enables it to accurately locate drill points, drill the holes and mark them according to trade.

The company is also introducing its new VC- X vacuum cleaners – the VC 20 and VC 40. Both models come with an upgraded interface that tells you the live status of the filter and container capacity, as well as giving you a hose diameter selector to suit different tools. They feature Hilti’s AirBoost adaptive automatic filter cleaning, meaning users only clean the filter when it needs cleaning.

Hussain is looking forward to being back at the recently renamed Coventry Building Society Arena. “Tool hire is the best route to market for us when it comes to introducing innovative products,” he said. “Tool hire enables contractors to try a new product for a limited time and see its effectiveness for themselves. Introducing innovations takes time – by definition, not everybody is an early adopter. There will be a gradual move within tool hire towards this type of new technology. But it is the best way to drive innovation into construction because tool hirers have huge coverage of this sector.”

Sustainability

Hilti also has a strong focus on the circular economy. “In the last few years

MHM is splitting its stand at EHS 2022, with one half dedicated entirely to its ECO range.

there is increased demand to look after the environment,” said Hussain. “Sustainability becomes the top priority for construction companies and their shareholders. With our focus on circularity new products last longer so less material goes to waste.”

MHM Group finds that innovation is now being demanded by end users. Group Sales Director, Bradley Ireland, said: “Solar power has been a massive driver this year, paired with new battery power technology. Top tier construction companies are now, more than ever, realising that changes need to be made in a big way.

“The impact of the COP 26 Conference in

Scotland has brought the issue to the forefront for the industry as a whole, so demand is now coming directly from the end user, which means that hire companies need to keep their fleet updated to be able to full fill this increasing demand for the latest in new technologies and eco-friendly equipment.

“Stage 5 engines and the death of red diesel has also had a huge impact, so people are looking for alternative ways to power sites, whether that be solar, battery, hybrid, or making use of alternative fuels such as HVO - all of MHM diesel engines are compatible with HVO - to save on costs and reduce emissions.” n
