GreenMech hits the skids Following the launch of an eight-inch road-tow chipper earlier in 2021,
GreenMech has announced a tracked version of the same – the EVO 205D SURE-Trak. The EVO 205D combines an aggressive chipping performance with
the impressive climbing ability afforded by its robust tracks. Speaking of which, the SURE-Trak system allows each track to be raised or lowered independently, ensuring that the machine maintains a horizontal position when climbing or descending slopes. Powered by a Stage V 50hp Kubota Diesel engine, the EVO 205D features horizontal rollers and a six-blade heavy-duty flywheel that makes light work of brash and timber. Meanwhile, a ‘Smart Sense’ controller provides no-stress overload protection to ensure optimum chipping performance. The EVO 205D SURE-Trak also comes with a range of factory-
fitted options, including a winch, lighting tower, recovery kit, remote control and fitted toolboxes. Best of all is a no-quibble, three-year parts and labour warranty.
Taking sides Brigade Electronics has
launched a new collision detection system that promises to be a boon for companies using larger delivery vehicles. ‘SideScan Predict’, as it is
known, constantly gathers object detection data such as the speed and distance of a cyclist or other vulnerable road user from the lorry. Additional technology gathers information such as the speed, direction, acceleration, and the turning rate of a vehicle. This data is then used to calculate the risk of a collision with cyclists and pedestrians who are nearby the vehicle. The system remains switched on at all times, even when the vehicle’s speed is below 22mph/30kph, and it cannot be deactivated by the driver. Designed for most rigid body vehicles, including rigid box vehicles, tippers, mixers, coaches and buses with a minimum length of 5.2m, the system comprises six sensors which have a detection area of 2.5 metres, compared to the industry standard 1m to 1.5m. These features help to reduce the risk of fatalities by an additional 84%. Other features include an auto brightness feature that adapts
to lighting conditions in the cab, and a visual alert which triggers if the system has a failure. The system comes complete in one box and installation takes around six hours. Additional speed and indicator switches are not required.

Först adopts HVO In a further move towards a net-zero future, Först has announced that
its diesel woodchippers fitted with Doosan engines are now approved for use with HVO fuel. Following a period of testing and consulting with Doosan, Först has confirmed that its Doosan equipped machines are now certified for use with HVO. Available from most fuel wholesalers, HVO eliminates up to 90% of net CO2, as well as significantly reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. Speaking of the new fuel, Först Senior Engineer Gary Wheelband
said: “We’re extremely pleased to enable Först customers to switch to a more environmentally friendly fuel option without the need for any additional investment in fuel storage or infrastructure, and with no compromise on the performance our woodchippers are known for. The benefits of HVO aren’t just related to sustainability – it can be bulk stored, is cheaper than pump fuel and has a much longer shelf life than diesel or petrol.” The Först woodchippers making the move include the ST6D42 and ST8D55 in the wheeled range, and the TR6D42, TR8D55 and XR8D in the tracked lineup. Först offers a three-year warranty and sells direct in England and Wales, and through an approved dealer network in 20 other countries.
