New Yanmar
electric prototype Yanmar has combined its engine and mini excavator expertise in the development of its first electric mini excavator prototype – the new SV17e. The SV17e is aimed at customers in the European market and fits within the 1.5 to 2.0 tonne segment. Powered by 48-volt batteries with fast charging capability, it’s a quiet and capable machine designed to meet the most demanding site emission restrictions. The new digger also offers high levels of comfort, ergonomics and operational power, precision, and control. “Our prototype is significant because it demonstrates our capability to bring the quality and reliability of our highly respected conventional engine technology into the arena of electrification,” explained Product Management Director EMEA, Cedric Durand. “As always, the operator is at the heart of this machine, and we have challenged ourselves to deliver the comfort, power, control and precision which we believe will surpass the expectations of professional operators.” While Director Engineering EMEA, Sota Takami added: “We are particularly pleased with the
power and control of the machine. Of course, this is a quiet, zero emission machine but that, in itself, is not enough. We must create a great feeling for the operator. I am confident that professional operators will be very comfortable in this machine, they will certainly feel the power, control and the precision handling they will need to take on the big jobs as well.”

More Makita tools There is, it seems, no end to the
applications for Makita’s 40V XGT battery platform. Another month passes, and the company announces a further two new products employing the system – the DA001G Brushless Angle Drill and DG001G Brushless Earth Auger. The DA001G delivers a no-load speed
of up to 1500rpm and a maximum torque of 136nm, making it highly suitable for heavy load applications. The unit features two mechanical gears and variable speed control, and Automatic Torque Drive Technology that automatically adjusts the output according to the load conditions. Meanwhile, the DG001G Brushless
Earth Auger is comparable to a 36cc engine product and has a maximum drilling capacity of 200mm and up to 136nm of torque. With two mechanical speeds, operators can easily drill into high or low resistance soil, and a reverse switch makes extracting the machine effortless. The earth auger attachment includes a bar that receives reaction force and an auxiliary handle which makes drilling holes easier. The DG001G also features Makita’s Automatic Torque Drive Technology. Both machines benefit from brushless motors. As there are no moving parts, no energy is lost
through heat production and run time is extended. Brushless motors do not need regular maintenance or replacement parts, which keeps the lifetime cost of the machine to a minimum.
