CW: Can you comment on the next major trend for the dark ride format? JW: We’ve seen dark rides evolve from a series of startles and gags through the story telling of Disney and Universal and the growth of interactive dark rides at the regional park. Interactive rides have gone from purely practical experiences to mixed media incorporating more of the video gaming that is so popular today. Moving into the future we are seeing video play a larger role in the entertainment experience and the incorporation of both virtual reality and augmented reality in some locations. We believe our newly patented mini dark ride will provide dark ride opportunities for smaller spaces including FEC’s. It will be a great experience in a small space.

CW: What can we expect next from Sally Dark Rides? JW: We are working with some great IPs including those from Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Angry Birds, Aardman and others. It will be an exciting future!
CW: Looking to the future of the industry as a whole, what would you say are the greatest challenges it faces? JW: The industry is facing a number of challenges. In particular the issues with the weather and the economy. As summers get hotter and winters get colder through the expanded season, indoor family attractions should play a vital role in the industry’s future. A dark ride or two may just be the perfect solution!
