Park Update www.parkworld-online.com

Let’s invoke strong emotions

Following the opening of Ducati World at Mirabilandia in 2019, Park World editor Becci Knowles caught up with general manager Riccardo Mercante to find out why last year was pivotal, in more ways than one

38 bars and restaurants, 20 shops and on-ride photo opportunities. Since it’s opening in 1992, the park has continuously updated its offer with new attractions suited to all age groups. Its main target market is families with children, in particular the 8-12 age group, followed by the 4-7 age group. That said, an important part of the park’s visitor base is represented by adults (over 20 years old) “who visit the park looking for the strong emotions offered by our record-breaking rides, such as iSpeed, Katun and Divertical,” says general manager Riccardo Mercante. The new Ducati World, plus Route 66, Dinoland, Far West

T

Valley, Adventureland and Bimbopoli make up the six themed areas, each of which are distinctively characterised by their attractions, says

Riccardo. “Dinoland, for example, opened in 2014 and it still is the largest area dedicated to the world of dinosaurs in an amusement park. Ducati World is the world’s first amusement park themed area inspired by a motorcycle brand, while in Adventureland you will find Katun, the number one inverted coaster in Europe.” Mirabiliandia’s show programme is greatly

he largest amusement park in Italy, Mirabilandia occupies an area of 850,000 square metres featuring 48 attractions, six themed areas, 15 shows,

appreciated as well, he says: “Sfida a Hot Wheels City” (Challenge in Hot Wheels City) features the highest mobile loop at 19 metres high - an exclusive performance for an amusement park.” It is “the most acclaimed stunt show in Europe”, he says. Indeed, 2019 was a big year for Mirabiliandia. It marked

the opening of Ducati World, a 35,000 square metre area featuring attractions, simulators and food outlets inspired by Ducati, the motorcycle brand headquartered in Borgo Panigale, Bologna. The “highlight” of Ducati World is said to be Desmo Race,

an “exclusive, interactive” roller coaster that simulates the experience of driving a Panigale V4 motorcycle on a double track. “Since Desmo Race is a prototype, the first months of opening were dedicated to software tuning and to the

necessary tests,” explains Riccardo. “In addition to Desmo there are also attractions especially aimed at children: Kiddy Monster, Scrambler Run and Diavel Ring. Moreover Ducati World includes a Ducati Experience building which features state-of-the-art simulators, two Motion Spheres in particular.”

Looking forward The aim this year is to focus on the large investments made in DucatiWorld and live events in 2019: “We will be especially focused on the artistic content of the park, thanks to renewal of our shows; we will also improve the quality of all the services offered in the park, to give our guests an even more fun and comprehensive experience.”
