Innovative indoor/outdoor waterpark SoundWaves set to open at Gaylord Opryland
oundWaves is billed as a luxury indoor-outdoor waterpark at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee, forming part of its ongoing
Workshop of Atlanta, Georgia, and represents a leap forward in architectural design for resort waterparks with innovative structure and design elements not seen before in the industry, the highlight of which is an ultra-contemporary indoor resort water park with luxury design elements that highlights the Gaylord brand. To achieve this vision, Ryman and DF Chase, the construction manager, turned to their long-time partner Aquatic Development Group to bring the design of their water park to life. This is the fifth project for the threesome, having worked together on previous Gaylord Resorts and other water park developments, in a relationship that has spanned more than six years. "SoundWaves is the fifth project we have worked on with
ADG,” said James Chamblin, VP of design and construction for Ryman Hospitality Properties, “They are one of those partners we return to time and time again for our resort
projects because of their innovative products, high service levels and unique approach to the design process.” SoundWaves will be available exclusively to hotel guests and will cover over 217,000 square feet including 111,000 square feet of indoor space spanned over three levels and 106,000 square feet of outdoor area. Construction on the indoor and outdoor water parks takes approximately 20 months and is slated to open December 1, 2018. When completed the SoundWaves four-acre luxury indoor/outdoor waterpark will feature dedicated recreation zones for adults, young children, and families. The indoor park experience is uniquely arranged vertically on three separate levels, tied together by a major circulation path that also facilitates linkages between the indoor and outdoor parks. The vertical arrangement of the design allows for the creation of distinct programmatic spaces while still maintaining visual connections when desired. The design incorporates a dense package of interior and exterior rides and pools to ensure a memorable, fun water experience. Year-round indoor attractions include upscale water
attractions and activities, a ProSlide slide tower, Double FlowRider, rapid and lazy rivers, an activity pool with rock climbing, obstacle course, and basketball. There will be restaurants, an exclusive adults-only indoor pool, bar and lounge, and private cabana rentals.
SoundWaves’ total outdoor capacity is 866 seats, including 192 seats in the wave pool/general outdoor waterpark, 162 seats around the kids pool/multi level play structure, 300 seats in the restaurant dining terraces, and 74 seats at the bar and food truck. 42 seats will be found in the adult pool and lounge, and 96 seats in the cabanas.
