Siam Park celebrates 10 years

Tenerife’s Siam Park held a special anniversary event this month, celebrating ten years of operation as well as announcing the upcoming arrival of two new family-friendly attractions. During the event, the opening of the Patong Rapids and Coco Beach children’s area was announced to a gathering of almost 200 industry professionals. Patong Rapids will be the park’s second river-rapids attraction, alongside the Mekong Rapids, boasting a 235m journey – including through an area of total darkness. The new Coco Beach will include a 1000 cubic-metre

wave pool that simulates the famous ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Siam Park was named TripAdvisor’s ‘Best Waterpark in

the World’ for the fifth consecutive year, as well as picking up ‘Waterpark of the Year’ at the inaugural Park World Excellence Awards last month.

In a Galaxy not so far away… C

alifornia’s Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida will soon welcome a new Star Wars themed area – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The new additions were initially announced by CEO Bob Iger in 2015, with work commencing the following year.

Both Star Wars areas will be similar in design, and according to Iger: “occupied by many inhabitants; humanoids, aliens and droids.” Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be set on the planet Batuu, which appears in the Star Wars: Thrawn: Alliances novel, and Batuu’s village, Black Spire Outpost, is mentioned in the 2017 film Solo: A Star Wars Story. As well as a cantina, the 14 acre expansion will include two, as-of-yet unnamed, rides. The first attraction will make guests feel as though they’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. According to Disney, the ride has been built on a scale that it has never done before. The second attraction invites guests aboard the Millennium Falcon, giving them a chance to fly the iconic ship, shoot blasters, and prepare to hurtle through hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission. Extra galactic credits can be earned by performing well on the mission, and those who return the Millennium Falcon in a worse for wear shape could get labelled as a bounty hunter. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in 2019, first at the Disneyland Resort and later in the year at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Milestone anniversary for

Ride Entertainment Ride Entertainment is celebrating two decades in business: more than 200 thrill rides launched to market, and over half a billion dollars in sales since founding. In their 20th year of setting new records in the industry, Ride Entertainment will put down three new attractions with record-setting attributes for height, length and degree of drop. The American Dream project, located in New Jersey, is expected to be the

largest indoor theme park in the western hemisphere when complete. For this project, Ride Entertainment conceptualised and sold two record-setting rollercoasters, the Spinning Coaster, the tallest and longest full-circuit, free-spinning coaster in the world, and the Launched Euro-Fighter, which will feature the world’s steepest roller coaster drop. Additionally, in order to facilitate the continued exceptional growth Ride

Entertainment has experienced since its founding, the company will create two divisions to manage all of their activities under the larger Ride Entertainment banner; the business development division, and the parks and attractions division.
