SO with ICE moving to April, I thought, well that’s good. It means the usual Dec/Jan/Feb deadline fest is eased this year and it’s hard to complain about that, though I would rather have had ICE on. But what’s this? The concert ticket I bought last spring for Psychedelic Furs are no good now because it’s on at the same time as ICE’s new dates, and it’s in Bristol, not London. BALLS. However, I’m not going to sell the ticket. Why not? Because I believe ICE will move again after pressure from AGEM and possibly the ECA, because the new dates are simply too close to Easter. As religious festivals go, it’s not what it used to be, but that holiday (regardless of religion) is a key break in Europe and the US. And without the support of AGEM and the ECA, ICE is not really ICE. Their opinions carry real weight, and for good reason. One bring the foot traffi c, the other brings the product. You could argue that they are ICE, and Clarion is just the facilitator. But the reason Clarion tried its luck with the April dates is, I believe, much simpler to understand, and it

wasn’t desperation to get the show on, or anything to do with supporting the industry. It’s because they won’t want to cannibalise their own iGB event in Amsterdam in July, and the iGaming side of ICE is so huge now that it’s hard to argue that a June ICE would do anything other than weaken the other event. I may be wrong – I’ve certainly been wrong before (that time I set my hand on fi re being a great example).

I have a feeling, though, that there is much more to come from this story. Until we hear, let’s plan for a great ICE in April, and enjoy a relatively quiet winter… I hope Santa visited you all.
