If you read Casino International, some of my words here will be familiar. If you don’t, well, let’s rock! I was writing my editorial column for CI recently and was pissing and moaning about my ticket to see Psychedelic Furs now being no use at all, as the rescheduled concert now clashed with rescheduled ICE, and was in a different city entirely.

8 A LOOK BACK – AND FORWARD
Key stakeholders across the iGaming sector look back at their 2021 highlights and place their 2022 predictions for the future of the online gaming industry.
Featured companies are: Planet Sport, Continent 8, kwiff, FSB, Livespins, Salsa, 1x2 Network, Chalkline, Green Jade Games, Champion Sports, Fantasma, Digital Isle of Man, Mr Gamble, Glitnor Group, Minty Creative, BetitRight, Hedgehog Cyber Security, Real Dealer, nanocosmos, Spribe, CEGO, Sports Games TV, ZingBrain, PressEnter, PandaScore, and BtoBet.
But, I thought. I’m not going to sell or rehome the ticket, because I believe ICE will move to June, against Clarion’s ideal. My belief that the event will move is because of pressure from the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) and the European Casino Association (ECA) – one provides the exhibitors, the other the visitors. Pretty important groups and highly persuasive. Their issue will be that the event butts right up to Easter, which while it may not be so resonant as a religious festival for many now, is still a very important holiday in North America and continental Europe.
Now, with so many events across the board trying to reshuffle, windows for an event the size of ICE are limited – but any movement toward the summer will start worrying Clarion, because it will threaten their big summer event, iGB in Amsterdam. And if ICE moves to June, it will surely cannibalise their other major event, as the iGaming side of ICE is so huge and important for the show now. So what’s the answer? Honestly, there really is not one where everybody wins. But Clarion has to make sure it has the industry’s best interests are actually at the heart of its decision, not its own profits. The long view must be taken. Easier said than done of course, it must be an astonishingly fine line to tread given the huge hits events organisations have had to endure during COVID.
Well, that’s what I reckon, anyway. But I’ve been wrong before, like that time I sat on the bonnet of a friend’s car and rolled a cigarette while he drove drunk across a golf course.
Hopefully see you in April. Or June. But soon. Jon
