GOODBYE 2017…
William Trentini CEO, Wild Crypto
platform, which has the power to disrupt the gaming space in 2018.
What do you think was the most important occurrence for the industry in 2017? The last 12 months have brought a sea change in attitudes and understanding towards cryptocurrencies. It wasn’t long ago that the gaming industry had little idea of the transformative impact blockchain technology could have. While there is a still a way to go, the rise in Bitcoin, increased media attention, and the successful fundraising of platforms like Wild Crypto have all combined to put crypto front and centre in the minds of industry stakeholders.
What were the biggest occurrences for you in 2017? Without a doubt raising more than 10,000 Ether (at the time valued at around $3.5 million) in a token sale in September to bring Wild Crypto to market. It was a fantastic achievement and a huge vote of confidence in our game-changing lottery and eGaming
Peter Causley CEO, Lightning Box
What do you think was the most important occurrence for the industry in 2017? There is little doubt that Pennsylvania becoming the fourth state to legalise online gambling, alongside New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada, was one of the most significant occurrences in all of gaming in 2017. But for suppliers like us with a strong land-based presence in the states, it was another landmark. With a full roll-out of the new legislation expected to take place in 2018, another state joining the regulated iGaming space in the USA represents a tremendous opportunity that providers and operators alike have responded to positively.
What were the biggest occurrences for you in 2017? 2017 has been a year packed with progress for Lightning Box. We launched into the UK betting shop market with one of the industry’s preeminent operators, William Hill in April 2017, a commercial relationship that we extended by developing two exclusive titles for their customers in September. Our online reach has also expanded a great deal this year too. Quickfire is one of the most comprehensive and widely engaged platforms in the industry, and we were delighted to sign an agreement with such a strong distribution channel for our online and mobile content.
64 MARCH 2018
What are you most excited about for the industry in 2018? I’m excited to see how the industry continues to innovate and adapt to the challenges it faces by leveraging new technology. More political scrutiny, increased regulatory burdens and tougher competition will remain core challenges over the 12 months, but our industry has been remarkably robust, and I am confident that the creativity and determination is there to drive growth during 2018 and beyond.
What are you most excited about for your own company in 2018? We are hugely excited for the launch of Wild Crypto in January. Of all the blockchain gaming projects to fundraise in 2017, we are the first to market and we believe our launch will be a watershed moment for online gaming. It will change the way customers interact with online casinos, and we expect many larger operators to sit up and take notice.
Anything else you’d like to say about the passing of 2017 and 2018’s arrival? Blockchain technology, Bitcoin and the entire crypto sector has been under the spotlight of late. I urge everyone working in the gaming space to take the time to read up on the area. It is the most exciting technological development to hit the gambling industry since the advent of mobile, and those who don’t adapt will quickly be left behind.
Pennsylvania legalising the activity, I am excited by the potential for more US states to follow its lead.
Lightning Box’s commitment to social content is also something we have maintained a sharp focus on throughout the year. The growth of social casino has been phenomenal, and sealing a distribution deal with social gaming pioneers High 5 Games to become their first external content partner was a real highlight.
What are you most excited about for the industry in 2018? I can’t make any apologies for the fact that this response ties into my answer to the first question, given how significant the advancement of iGaming across the USA is for the industry. More than 70% of the global market for social casino resides in the USA, underlining the appetite for online casino gameplay across the country, and with
What are you most excited about for yourselves in 2018? Players have responded very positively to our games as we expanded our global footprint in 2017, and put simply, our aim is to ensure more and more players in regulated markets across the world can enjoy our innovative catalogue of top-performing titles. We are engaged in active discussions with operating partners and platform providers as we seek to grow our reach, and I am excited to introduce our games to more and more players in the coming year. We’ve got some great content on the way.
Anything else you’d like to say about the passing of 2017 and 2018’s arrival? At Lightning Box we have enjoyed a busy and successful 2017. We have a lot of big developments planned for the coming year, and having seen the industry as a whole continue to grow alongside our own offering, all I will say is bring on 2018!
