Editor’s Letter

ith the weather beginning to turn for the better, it can only mean one thing: the first Sign Update summer issue is here! But Melanie and I haven’t been soaking up the early rays, as instead we have been sweating, compiling the latest happenings in the world of signage.
I, for one, have been swamped traversing the country to speak to many in the industry. I first met up with Sam Armstrong and Libby Clifford from Make It Happen Signage Consultancy. The pair were kind enough to invite me to try their newest sign making workshop aimed at complete novices in the industry. It’s safe to say I won’t be putting people out of business anytime soon, but I had a lot of fun and learnt so much. A report about the day can be found on pages 54 and 55.
I also went to visit the managing director of Embrace Building Wraps, Greg Forster, at the company’s site in Burlington Gardens to discuss his business and what inspired him to take on the challenge of wrapping buildings. From the world’s largest building wrap to coming up with new and engaging designs to help advertise its clients, Greg and his company have been doing sterling work, with some examples on display across pages 46 and 47.
Also included in this issue is a review of FESPA, one of the biggest events in the calendar. We discuss all that went on, what new equipment was released and what is to come following the show. This can be found on pages 30 to 34. All that, plus our regular columns and features, can be found inside, as well as the latest news across the world of signs and printing.
As always, it has been a huge pleasure pulling together this latest issue, and I only hope you get as much out of reading it as we put into compiling it, perhaps even more so now you can enjoy it in the glorious sunshine!
As much as I would also like to be enjoying the change in weather, our job doesn’t stop, and Melanie and I have already got our sights on the next issue. If you have something to share or wish to get involved, then please contact one of us, and we will be more than happy to listen; we just may be catching a few rays as we do.
For now, thank you again to everyone who helped bring this issue together and thank you for reading; we hope you enjoy!
