UFABRIK Flag Textile shows its colours with UV print technology at Wembley Stadium

The 35x37m flag produced by Hollywood Monster D

uring the Vertu Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium on April 13, Peterborough fans were faced with an onslaught of blue as Birmingham City FC supporters rolled out a massive UFABRIK Flag Textile. The giant flag, measuring a hefty 35x37m, was produced by Hollywood Monster, a longtime signage and branding supplier to Birmingham City FC.

The UFABRIK Flag Textile was

printed using the EFI VUTEk Q5r UV LED 5m printer. It was also finished in-house, ensuring it would withstand the enthusiastic handling of over 1,000 supporters who held it up during the match.

Simon McKenzie, CEO of Hollywood Monster, said: “We’ve enjoyed a 30-year relationship with Birmingham City FC. What began with producing traditional wooden pitch-side signs has evolved into creating cutting-edge digital

signage and massive fabric installations that showcase the technological journey that both our companies have been on. These massive fan flags convey the strength of the supporters’ love and loyalty towards their team.” Compatible with dye sublimation direct, paper transfer, and now UV, the UFABRIK flag material offers the perfect combination of lightweight handling characteristics needed for such a sizeable crowd-surfing display.

Vision Sign Works upgrades Adelaide seaside area with Drytac materials

Drytac films used at Marina Pier

S D

outh Australia-based sign maker, Vision Sign Works, recently used Drytac products to create a set of eye-catching exterior graphics for use

across Marina Pier, near Glenelg. Due to the seafront location, Vision elected to work with Polar Premium; a printable vinyl for applications such as general signage, point-of-sale, display, window, floor and vehicle graphics. It was paired with Weathershield Matte for additional protection. The film uses more complex plasticisers than less expensive monomeric PVC films, resulting in significantly improved durability and weatherability – something that was crucial to the long-term success of the Marina Pier project.

Vision printed all the graphics in-house on its HP Latex 365 printer and, despite running into several issues with the weather in Adelaide, was able to complete installation successfully, much to the delight of the customer. Kai Waters, owner of Vision, said: “Being so close to the ocean, we did run into a few installation problems. “But as Polar Premium is such a fantastic vinyl to work with, we completed installation on time and the area owners and all the vendors loved the new upgrade.”

Pasta shop decorated with Drytac Polar Frost Air

rytac’s Polar Frost Air has been used by Nettl at Digiprint Bath and Chippenham to produce a set of window graphics for a new pasta shop. Magari was looking to open a new location and required an image during store setup that complemented the upscale location of the store and attracted the attention of passersby. As a long-time user of Drytac materials, Nettl at Digiprint suggested working with Polar Frost Air. The film features an embossed pearl finish and is coated with a clear permanent adhesive, protected by a two-sided PE-coated release liner

with bubble-free technology, making it ideal for decorative glass applications. Ben Gregory, director of Nettl at Digiprint, said: “We selected Polar Frost Air for the excellent ease of install, but also because it can be printed easily with our HP Latex printers. It was important that the view was obscured but still looked high quality with a classic feel.”

Such was the success of the project that Magari has already been back in touch with Nettl at Digiprint, placing orders for more applications ready for when the shop opens.
