Astra Group completes seven-figure Manchester airport refresh
A
stra Group has completed on a seven-figure wayfinding project for Manchester
Airport’s Terminal 2.
The company’s brief to design, manufacture, and install new signage throughout the airport’s new terminal, saw a significant number of products delivered, including the approach, forecourt, check-in and departure desks. The wayfinding project, with help from contractors, MACE Group and BAM Construction, took two years to complete, including design, production and installation.
These include external gate signage, wall-mounted maps, sophisticated flight information displays, and digital totems, along with internal signage and directories.
Paul Dyke, group sales director for Astra Group, said: “The most successful wayfinding solutions are those that feel effortless.
“The priority throughout was to create a wayfinding experience that genuinely supports passengers – reducing stress, improving accessibility and contributing to a safe, intuitive journey. At the same

The project by Astra Group was named ‘Wayfinding Scheme of the Year’ at the
2026 Sign Industry Awards. Commenting on the accolade, Dyke added: “To see this work recognised by our industry peers and recognised as The Sign Industry Awards’ Wayfinding Scheme of the Year is a proud moment for all involved.”

For this project, a solution was needed that could be easily applied over the permanent league graphics and removed with no damage afterwards.
Drytac’s SpotOn White M50 monomeric PVC film, which features light-blocking properties and a removeable dot-pattern adhesive, was used by the team at Signs Express to create the ice rink board graphics. Taking over the business from her father in 2006, Cathy Johnston, proprietor at Sign Express (Belfast), said: “This involved flipping the full rink side dasher – more than 165 linear metres (540 ft) of graphics. We had two turnaround installations to complete approximately five to six weeks apart at the end of August and start of October. “The Giants have local sponsor graphics permanently in place throughout the regular season, so it was crucial that their season signage remained undamaged when removing the Champions League overlays.” The graphics were printed on an Epson SureColor S80600 to ensure high colour accuracy for the sponsors’ branding due to it being broadcasted on Sky TV.
