New compact ground source heat pump for network systems

The new Shoebox NX heat pump from Kensa is the latest version of the company’s ground source heat pump which has been designed for installation in a network of heat pumps, such as might be used in high rise flats or terraced streets. Small enough to fit into a cupboard, the compact unit is said to be five times more energy efficient than a gas boiler and can heat water to over 60°C without the need for an immersion heater. It is designed to work in flats, apartments, terraced houses, tenements and new build properties and can provide passive cooling to cool homes during the summer at a lower cost than air conditioning. Mimicking the gas network model, individual and

independently controlled ground source heat pumps can be fitted inside each property and are connected to a shared heat network. Kensa says that such a system will lower upfront installation costs, with consumers paying a standing charge as part of their energy bill, giving them access to low-cost, low- carbon heat. Tamsin Lishman, Kensa CEO, says: “This is a game-changing heat pump designed for the UK. Until now, achieving mass heat pump rollout has

been a complex challenge, but with the launch of our Shoebox NX, we’ve engineered a small, high- performance heat pump that’s ready to replace gas as the main home heating choice. When combined with our Networked Ground Source Heat Pumps solution, it unlocks cosy homes in the winter and cooler homes in the summer for almost anyone, and at low costs to the consumer.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/65

40mm and are supplied with a wall connection fixing kit and feature three water inlet options – left, top and back, for extra flexibility. Clean water and wastewater pipes are also fixed together with load-bearing clamps.

To improve accuracy and

efficiency on site, the flush plate area includes reference points that conveniently imprint the plasterboard with a cutting guide. There are also markings showing the 100cm level. The Prime model includes

further features to aid installation, such as spring- loaded feet to bear the weight and an adjustable clamp to secure the waste pipe in place. Reference points on the V-Stopper also imprint the plasterboard with an additional cutting guide, for enhanced accuracy. The model also includes water

and electrical connections for shower toilets and electrical flush plates. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/66
