PHAM NEWS | APRIL 2024 Training Update 19

Low carbon tuition in the south opens near Luton

A new low carbon training hub has been announced by Ideal Heating to equip installers with the skills to fit, maintain and service domestic and commercial heat pumps. The Training and Technology

Centre will also deliver product training for Ideal Heating’s wide range of domestic and commercial boilers. The 16,000ft2

centre

represents an investment of £1m by the manufacturer and is due to open in April. It is located at Insignia Park in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, just a few minutes from Luton and the M1 motorway. It will have four spacious training

areas featuring the latest equipment and technology, a large

conference facility and comfortable café area. There will also be numerous display areas to showcase Ideal Heating’s range of domestic and commercial heating products. Equipment will include a live

heat pump training suite and thermodynamic fault-finding

simulators, to enable installers to develop the practical, hands-on skills they need to fit and service air source heat pumps To book a training program at

Get accredited to install perimeter heating

DiscreteHeat offers an online training course for its ThermaSkirt product, an energy efficient heating system that resembles a skirting board and works with a variety of heating systems. The course consists of three modules covering product overview, installation, and system specification. Upon completion, installers become Registered Installers with access to the trade-only online portal and priority technical support. Further progression is possible as an Accredited Installer and Professional Installer, unlocking additional benefits and marketing support. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/24

For installers interested in hybrid heating solutions

The Training Academy at Grant UK now offers two new face-to-face courses for heat pump installers. The Hybrid Solutions Course is a one-day programme for domestic heating and renewables installers who have completed Grant’s Aerona3

air source heat pump

course. It combines hands-on training and theory, covering the Grant VortexAir Hybrid, EvoLink Hybrid System Hub, and low loss header systems. Participants will learn about specification, construction, performance, operation, electrical wiring, installation, and commissioning of these systems. The second course is the Smart Controller and EvoLink product, also one day in duration. This one is also designed for installers who have completed the Grant Aerona3

air source heat pump

course. The course is divided into two parts, with the first half focusing on theory and hands-on training on the Aerona Smart Controller, and the second half covering the EvoLink Hybrid System Hub. Topics include the Smart Controller’s touchscreen display, system components, electrical connections,

UK wetroom manufacturer Impey has announced the return of its online ‘We Are Wetrooms’ training programme for 2024. With nine dates available between March and November, bookings for the free sessions are now open. The training is conducted from a virtual training hub, kitted out with

a product presentation studio and demonstration areas. Purpose-made content ensures that seminar participants can take advantage of the online format, which blends pre-recorded videos with a variety of live Q&A sessions. The 2024 programme of ‘We Are Wetrooms’ interactive virtual

training sessions kicked off on Friday 15th March. All dates will be hosted by Shaun Hunt, wetroom guru and Impey’s technical and trade marketing manager with over 20 years experience in the sector. Each session covers: wetroom installation and floor formers, installation into a wooden or concrete floor, how to achieve the perfect wetroom gradient, drainage and leak-free water proofing. Full details of dates and times are available on the Impey website,

NICEIC stays ahead of the green curve

NICEIC has developed a new range of qualifications for heating and plumbing engineers seeking to enhance their knowledge and competence in low carbon technologies. The course includes two key areas: Solar Thermal Hot Water and Heat Pumps. The training and assessment provided by NICEIC’s industry experts cover various aspects such as design, installation, testing, commissioning, servicing, and fault-finding of solar thermal hot water systems and ground/air source heat pump systems. These qualifications align with the latest NOS/QCF criteria and MCS scheme requirements.

configuration, operation, and settings. Participants will also learn about the EvoLink’s product specification, construction, operation, installation, electrical connections, settings, and commissioning. Both courses are designed to

empower installers with the skills needed to effectively install, configure, and maintain these systems in domestic heating and renewable energy applications. “We are pleased to add these

new face-to-face courses to the suite of product training courses that we deliver in Swindon, Hawes, Livingston and Norfolk,” comments Phil Stanley, training manager at Grant UK. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/26

Manchester mayor attends hub launch

A new Green Skills Hub has opened its doors at Stockport College, Manchester, in a bid to tackle the UK’s green skills gap – officially launched by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. The launch is a continuation of Daikin UK and

its partnership with Quantum Group, a provider of renewable and decarbonisation training, to upskill the next generation of renewable heating professionals. The training will provide hands-on practical sessions on air source heat pumps, solar PV, and EV charging, in Quantum Group’s training booths, where installation and maintenance procedures can be simulated. Commenting on the launch of the Green Skills

Hub, Andy Burnham said: “Greater Manchester has an ambitious plan to become a carbon neutral city- region by 2038 and green skills hubs such as these

NICEIC head of business development and

strategic partnerships, Neil Vincent, comments: “As crucial contributors to achieving net zero, plumbing and heating engineers play a vital role in the nation’s transition to not only heat pumps but other low carbon technologies. However, to facilitate this switch they need to upskill and collaborate effectively with electrical contractors. Our new offering reflects these needs, and we are thrilled to bring these new courses to the heating and plumbing market.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/27

Learning about how to fit wetrooms online

are key to helping us fulfil this. Training facilities such as this offer our young people a great place to learn vital green skills, maximising their chances of getting a good job, and cement Greater Manchester’s position as leading the way on both new sustainable energy technologies and technical education.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/424/28
