DAAS WITH A GREEN EDGE

Lenovo has launched TruScale DaaS for Sustainability, a new service designed to help businesses reduce IT-related emissions.

James Pennington, Global Sustainability Services Director, explains how the offering combines lifecycle management with measurable environmental impact.

W

hat misconceptions still exist around circular IT? Te biggest misconception I am seeing

around circular IT is that it’s just recycling or that it’s expensive and complex to implement. In reality, circular IT is about creating a closed-loop approach to technology that delivers both financial and environmental value. It goes far beyond end-of-life recycling to include designing for longevity, reusing and refurbishing devices, and recovering value at every stage of the IT lifecycle. Circular IT programmes such as TruScale DaaS for

Sustainability show how this works in practice. By shiſting to a flexible, service-based model, organisations can reduce e-waste, avoid up-front costs, and simplify lifecycle management while achieving up to 35% reductions in device-related costs. For the channel, the priority is helping customers see that circular IT isn’t a burden, but a smarter, value-driven approach to enterprise technology.

How are decision-makers balancing sustainability with costs and refresh cycles? Balancing sustainability and cost pressures isn’t a trade- off anymore; rather, the two go hand in hand. McKinsey research suggests that up to 60% of end-user device emissions can be reduced simply by business models which keep devices in service for longer, such as repair and refurbishment. At Lenovo, we find that if IT professionals focus on this, there is not necessarily a trade-off between

sustainability and cost, and in fact, many of the solutions we bring to customers can provide both. TruScale DaaS for Sustainability was built in response

to what customers and partners were asking for. Whether you’re talking to SMBs or mid-market organisations, sustainability is no longer an aſterthought, and this service allows for a shiſt away from the traditional linear buy- and-dispose model towards a more circular approach. It allows organisations to advance their sustainability goals and modernise IT simultaneously, a proposition that strongly resonates with both our channel partners and their customers.

Can you walk us through how the Carbon Impact Portal works in practice? Te Carbon Impact Portal is an easy-to-use dashboard that provides information on product carbon footprints and energy ratings, broken down by device, helping to simplify Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting. It presents clear, device-level data that gives businesses

valuable oversight of their emissions. Many of our customers are looking for better data provided by the manufacturer and validated by third parties, which they can use for reporting or planning their transition to net- zero. Our portal brings this together in one easy-to-use interface. Tere’s a huge amount of data available in the Carbon

Impact Portal, which is useful for resellers and their customers. Te entire combined PCF value for a customer is based on their actual geographical footprint and the
