AI, ZERO TRUST AND THE NEW MSP REALITY
Danny Jenkins, CEO and Co-founder of ThreatLocker, speaks with PCR about the post-Windows 10 landscape, the surge in AI-driven threats, and why non-specialist MSPs must rethink their security foundations.
T
he end of Windows 10 support was supposed to be a defining moment for MSPs: a clear deadline, a clear risk, and
a clear path forward. Yet as TreatLocker CEO Danny Jenkins points out, the real story of the past year has been far messier. Te rush to upgrade has collided with a wave of new vulnerabilities, many of them targeting Windows 11 itself. For MSPs already stretched thin, the new era has been less about operating systems and more about the accelerating pace of threats. “Tere’ve been five zero days released in the
last month for Microsoſt… and all of them affect Windows 11 in some way,” Jenkins notes at the time of the interview. Te scramble to move customers off Windows 10, he argues, has been overshadowed by the reality that attackers are evolving faster than vendors can patch. Tis sets the tone for the conversation, and Jenkins’ message is
blunt: the threat landscape has changed, and MSPs must change with it.
The AI era For Jenkins, the biggest transformation of the past year is the

arrival of practical, accessible AI tooling for attackers. Te number of people capable of producing effective malware has exploded. “We have gone from two million people who
can write effective malware to essentially four billion,” he says. Whether or not that number is literal, the point is clear: AI has democratised cybercrime. Tis creates a dual challenge for MSPs. First,
they must defend against AI-generated threats that can mutate, adapt and exploit vulnerabilities at unprecedented speed. Second, they must secure the AI tools their customers are adopting. Many businesses are racing to integrate AI into workflows without considering the
security implications. Jenkins says: “I can literally show you how a commonly used AI agent can delete all your files, encrypt all your files, and become ransomware if someone were to access it on your machine.” For MSPs, this means protecting clients from AI while enabling
them to use AI. It’s a tension that non-specialist MSPs feel acutely, especially when customers assume security is someone else’s problem.
