Networking
On the hybrid networking path Alan Hayward from SEH talks about optimising IT Infrastructures in 2023. I
n the past, every household had its own water well. Today, clean water is available to virtually everyone in the UK by turning on
a tap. Cloud computing functions in a similar way. Just like a flow of water, hybrid networking environments may be quickly turned on and off, depending on demand. As with a utility provider, dedicated workforces guarantee that cloud computing services are safe, secure, and always available. Over the last couple of years, hybrid
networking infrastructures have become the norm but what is it? A hybrid network is a type of cloud computing that integrates on- premise technology with a public Cloud. Data and applications can travel between the two environments in a hybrid cloud infrastructure environment. Many products today employ a hybrid cloud strategy to solve business imperatives such as meeting regulatory and data sovereignty requirements, maximising on-premise technology investment, ensuring resiliency, or addressing low latency challenges.
The empowerment of the cloud Tanks to the modern internet, the cloud provides data access from anywhere, at any time, and on any compatible device. Tis ease of access speeds up processes, enhances communication, and empowers employees wherever they may be. At a time of budget constraints, moving to the cloud can save money, while freeing IT personnel from day-to-day responsibilities and issues, allowing them to focus on enhancing operations, strategic tasks and growing the

business. 92% of organisations have a multi- cloud strategy in place or are in the process of developing one, and 82% of large enterprises have implemented a hybrid cloud infrastructure, so it’s fair to say that hybrid cloud and multi- cloud are the new norm. Before the pandemic, many organisations
that had not previously used cloud deployments quickly realised the value and importance of doing so and hybrid working has helped take the cloud to new heights. Tis demand has continued to increase. According to a recent study, 16% of all employees work remotely, with 62% preferring a hybrid work environment. Many employees today have the flexibility to work when, how, and where they want
for a variety of tasks. Tis could include some days of in-office collaboration, deep focus work at home on others, and working from a coffee shop while travelling. Employers face challenges in adapting to and meeting these needs, but reap the benefits of employee satisfaction, productivity, and retention in the long run. Te challenge for businesses is developing and maintaining cloud infrastructures that support the demands of hybrid working, especially now as many workers are also visiting office environments, so there’s a balance that needs to be struck. Hybrid networking is an excellent storage and scalability solution
because it enables businesses to scale their storage up or down based on ongoing demand. Spot instances for example allow businesses to take advantage of a cloud provider’s spare capacity, rather than the more expensive standard instances, in some cases with a
