Chamois Butt’r is passionate about helping cyclists make the most of every ride. BikeBiz speaks to the brand’s head of marketing Kara Mathews to learn more
The Birth of Chamois Butt’r Our founder, Steve Mathews’ love of riding bikes began in 1976 in high school in Kansas, when he hopped on his bike and rode across Colorado with his friend, Ron. Steve recognized the discomfort many riders faced during hours in the saddle. At the time, there was not a cream designed for the needs of synthetic chamois found in modern bib shorts. Determined to address this issue, Steve set out to create a solution that would alleviate chafing and saddle sores. After trying everything else on the market in 1988, the Original Chamois Butt’r® was born in a small garage in Kansas City, MO. In the years since its launch, Chamois Butt’r has evolved from an individual product into a full range developed to suit the individual preferences of a wide range of riders, disciplines, and conditions. Thirty years later, we are still just
as passionate about creating the best experience on a bike and are now featured on the shelves of most U.S. bicycle retailers as well as being distributed internationally through the likes of Extra UK and Cyclex.
What sets Chamois Butt’r apart? Chamois Butt’r stands out for our commitment to quality and our rider-centric approach. We offer a full range of chamois creams and balms specifically designed to enhance the comfort of cyclists. The secret lies in our carefully crafted formulas, utilising high-quality ingredients that provide lubrication, moisture, and protection. Our founder, Steve Mathews said “On longer rides, a high-quality chamois cream is a game-changer. I made these products to address unique chafing conditions for when I wanted to ride further and reapply less often. Our products give riders a solution for the greatest possible skin protection.” Our chamois creams are formulated to reduce friction, prevent chafing, and protect the delicate skin in the saddle area. Whether you’re a casual rider or a professional cyclist, Chamois Butt’r has a product tailored to your needs.
Benefits for retailers Painful chafing and saddle sores can derail riders and keep riders off their bikes and out of your store. Maintaining your customer’s smooth skin guarantees riders’ ability to continue to ride all year round. Chamois Butt’r’s ability to improve rides translates to customer satisfaction and loyalty as seen with the product’s high rate of repeat purchase. With a complete range
