gamescom is the industry event on which the sun never sets and its gaze has settled on Singapore for the start of gamescom asia. Daria La Valle fills us in on what we’ve been missing and what the 40,000 attendees can expect

How has gamescom asia evolved since its inception and what were some of the key milestones in shaping the event into what it is today? We had a pretty rough start. gamescom asia was originally scheduled to debut in October 2020, but with the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world, we had to cancel. We didn’t want our very first edition to be online-only. Instead, that year (2020), we launched a series of webinars called Games Market Bootcamp, which explored most Southeast Asian game markets (along with Australia and India), as we identified a knowledge gap about our region within the international games industry. Our first large-scale physical event took place in
Singapore at the height of the pandemic in October 2021. At that time, the Singapore government was
focusing on restarting the events industry in a safe and gradual way, beginning with B2B events. We worked closely with the government to implement several safe management measures on-site and ensure the safety of our attendees. We successfully concluded the event, and it remained COVID-19-free. In 2022, we held the second edition of the show
with a B2B-only focus, as the Singapore government was slowly easing large-scale event policies. Finally, the first full-scale B2B2C gamescom asia took place in October 2023. Now, we are looking forward to our 4th edition of gamescom asia, set to take place at Suntec Singapore from 17-20 October 2024, with a large-scale B2B2C format covering 12,000sqm of event space and welcoming 40,000 gamers and fans.
In what ways has the Asian gaming landscape influenced the direction of gamescom asia? When people think of Southeast Asia, they sometimes think of a homogeneous block. It’s actually a very diverse region with many countries, and vastly different cultures and languages.
