Why is a premier payment platform backing lowly League One’s Stevenage FC? Xsolla’s Chris Meredith talks up their chances of promotion

No doubt it’s great for the club and the shirts do look fabulous, but what’s in it for Xsolla? As always, good opportunities come from good relationships, and I’ve known Stu for 20-odd years. It aligned because of the fact that our


route to market is promoting grassroot-level independent developers and making sure that we grow our proposition through a relationship from that centre point. While we could easily have gone to a Premier team and done something there, we have to sometimes not only talk the talk, we have to walk the walk, and talking to Stu and talking to the fact that that is grassroots level in regards to where they are. One of the EFL is televised worldwide. You can watch any of those games during the week through Sky. So the awareness has gone through the roof, and football now is really the entertainment medium. We’re in a two-year deal and we want Stevenage to do really well. It’s been a very enjoyable journey so far. And Stu is very supportive in regards to what we do here as well. It is a win-win, to be honest.


Grassroots alignment makes sense. But in terms of awareness, do you have a problem with the industry getting what Xsolla is about? Recognition is through the roof in terms of the brand and what we do. Unfortunately, there is that lack of understanding - not misunderstanding - a lack of understanding. [People will] know we’re an ecommerce, payment solution company, but we have so much more now. So much more. Certainly we are the monetisation platform for any developer that wants to go through the whole life cycle, but we have 25 different solutions that we offer.
