WHY HAVE YOU MADE F1 YOUR CAREER-HOME? I love the friendly and supportive people and culture at Codemasters. I’ve made the journey from QA technician in 2005 to a technical director on one of the biggest racing titles in the world! The opportunities have been endless, every day is a new challenge and that’s what I live for.

IS THERE A SUCCESS STORY YOU CAN SHARE? We are extremely fortunate on the F1 team to have many success stories. With a talented team in place to support each other’s growth, it is a natural part of the process. I could pinpoint instances where we have taken on graduates who are now leading their own teams or people who are now delivering talks at industry leading conferences.

AS A MANAGER, HOW DO YOU SUPPORT CAREER GROWTH IN YOUR TEAM? It’s very important to work closely with people to understand their goals and help them grow. Career growth can take many forms from tailored development plans to specific training. Most of all growth needs time, opportunity and resources and it’s my responsibility to provide this for my team.

WHY HAVE YOU MADE F1 YOUR CAREER-HOME? I grew up playing Micro Machines on the Mega Drive and the opportunity to work for Codies was an offer I could not refuse! I have worked on many games but always stayed in the UI group. My first job was to create screens but over time, I became one of the most experienced UI content developers. This led me to my current role where I am the lead developer of our proprietary EGO3:UI Engine. This role is very different to where I started! Now I am creating engine features for other people to use. It is extremely motivating and rewarding for me to enable developers to implement their visions for the game.

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN SUPPORTED? Support is critical! Having the trust and support of the team around me has allowed me to develop as a person. Games development is always under time pressure and so a key factor is finding space to focus on an area you want to improve. An example of this is learning C#/WPF which was initially done in the background. Now I use that toolset almost daily to improve the UI feature set for all the developers on the team.
