SPACE ROCK BREAKER I have only one bad thing to say about this game, and that’s that


it has an end. I have been playing this obsessively (and that’s downplaying my addiction quite heavily). I’ve completed it, ‘prestiged’ it, and gone back round again to a ridiculous degree (a few times). It’s part Asteroids, part plinko, part obsessive wealth-gathering and upgrading. And it’s great. Being a ‘short incremental game’, your first outing lasts about 10 seconds before you run out of fuel having only mined one or two rocks. Six hours later you’re converting every dink of damage and every nugget of ore into fuel, lasting much longer and filling your cargo hold with valuable multi- coloured rocks. Oh, and then it’s off to the INCREDIBLY satisfying plinko


machine to sort your ore. Loot boxes boost the plinko machine, and you go from harvesting $4 of rock a time to banking trillions. I loved the demo, spent a few quid on the main game, and honestly


couldn’t recommend it more. It is THE perfect sandwich-eating game. Right… I’m off to hit Sector 100 for a quick fix!


THE LAST GAS STATION


Ever fancied running your own gas station? No? Well, how about running a gas station… as a fox in trousers (for no apparent reason)? Yeah – now I’ve got your attention haven’t I! Having inherited a run-down gas station in the middle of nowhere, it’s down to you to get the pumps running, open up the derelict repair shop, buy some shelves and get some drinks, gum, oil and snacks on display to satisfy the ever-growing number of customers


STARFIELD


See – I don’t only play weird quirky games on Steam – the big boys get a look in too! I was gutted back in the day when Starfield was only on PC (I spend enough time hunched over my keyboard and mouse TBH) so was delighted to finally get this on PS5. I’d even avoided all streams and clips on original release as I didn’t want to know what I was missing.


I must admit I was initially a little disappointed, simply because so many of the things I love about space-sims (docking with space stations, warping to destinations, swooping down to a landing site way too fast, etc) are reduced to simply asking for it and then getting an out- of-your-control animation or static loading screen. Boo.


However, I recalibrated and realised that those things aren’t what Starfield is about. I got into the dialogue, the characters, the guns… oh, and killing EVERYONE on better spaceships simply because I wanted it for myself. Being told “Sarah disliked that” became a badge of honour (to be honest, if you’re going to force me to buddy-up with an NPC, the chances of them NOT being disgusted by my actions are slim at best). It still seems to be a game that divides


reviewers – and I can see why – but we’re 140 hours in, and still playing so… it must be doing something right!

that arrive as your reputation grows. Simple, sweet graphics do the job, while the pace goes from leisurely to frantic as you run between the pumps, back to serve customers in the shop, and then rush over to the repair shop to pump up some turtle’s tyres. Oh yeah, everyone in this game is an animal. It’s picked up “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, and for good reason. Give it a go.
