For the sugar reduced chocolates he said “One of our best-selling milk chocolates is now available with 30% less sugar, but we have also developed other milk and dark chocolate options using solutions from Cargill’s sugar reduction toolbox for chocolate.” Refl ecting on the show, Cargill commented: “It was great

to be back on the FiE fl oor this year and to participate in such a buzzing event. FiE 2022 was a real reminder of the value of meeting again in person. It was the perfect opportunity for us to catch up with hundreds of our customers and partners from Europe and beyond, and to inspire them with new business opportunities. We continue to see FiE as the premier event for food ingredients supply and partnership – and long may it continue to set the tone.”

Functional and natural ingredients Although confectionery is seen as an indulgent category, better-for-you functional chocolate and confectionery is growing in popularity around the world, with brands adding active ingredients to provide a health boost. It was great to connect with customers and partners in person to discuss new trends for sustainable collagen-based solutions and innovative applications. “At our Discovery Corner, we invited visitors explore trends such as functional confectionery, healthy

In particular, we noticed a vivid interest regarding the market insights on functional gummies, which are one of the fastest growing nutraceutical segments across Europe, North America and Asia. “Visitors were also very interested in the vitamin-C rich

‘gummy caps’, made with the innovative SiMoGel gelatin solution, that we showcased at our Innovation Corner. SiMoGel allows for the production of nutraceutical gummies using silicon or metal moulds, which are easily cleanable and eliminate dust during production, unlike traditional starch trays. For this technology, we received patents from both the U.S. Patent and Trademark offi ce and the European Patent Offi ce, which further confi rms our commitment to new and improved customer gelatin-based formulations.
