Consumer demand for vegan and plant-based options continues to accelerate. This is why Cargill offers ExtraVeganZa – a range of vegan chocolates made exclusively with plant-based ingredients that deliver outstanding taste and texture profi les. These solutions are fully in line with consumer demand for plant-based options and indulgent sensorial experiences. Products in the ExtraVeganZa range are based on three plant-
based “power” ingredients: sunfl ower kernel powder, rice syrup powder, and organic rice syrup powder. Each option brings its own unique fl avor and texture profi le. Further differentiating the line, ExtraVeganZa uses nut- and soy-free ingredients. This means that no allergen declarations are required in Europe. Equally important, this vegan chocolate range can be used as a replacement for traditional milk chocolate in a wide range of applications, including bakery, confectionery, and dairy. The use of sunfl ower kernel powder is unique to Cargill,
with patent pending. It has been identifi ed by our chocolate experts as a sensorial winner because it brings a delightful creaminess and smooth melt-in-mouth experience. Up until now, these qualities have been diffi cult to achieve with other ingredients used in vegan chocolates. Sunfl ower kernel powder also resonates very positively with consumers. In fact, Cargill’s IngredientTracker™ data shows a net health score of +31% for this ingredient, with a distinctly positive correlation on purchase intent. While it is important to stress that high quality standards
are in place across Cargill’s entire ingredient portfolio, extra care is taken with the ExtraVeganZa line, in order to ensure compliance with its defi ned vegan standards. This involves applying added scrutiny to the ingredient selection and chocolate production process for ExtraVeganZa. Cargill therefore operates dedicated chocolate production lines in Belgium and Germany for these highly innovative products.

Also launching in time for Christmas 2022, is a Thorntons
Pearls Mixed Selection. This follows the successful launch of Thorntons Pearls last year, which added £1.8m RSV to the category over Christmas alone. The new assortment box will strengthen the range with this larger format that contains three fl avours: Salted Caramel Sensation, Hazelnut Delight and a new fl avour unique to the category, Brownie Deluxe. Also available for Christmas 2022 was the Ferrero Rocher Collection advent calendar which has had a refreshed look and feel, with a more modern packaging design to bring it to life on shelf. Another favourite, the Grand Ferrero Rocher, which delivered over £1.8m in value sales during Christmas 2021 and is now the number three SKU in moulded novelties, also returned to continue to drive premium growth into the category this festive period. Kinder Surprise, Kinder Joy, and Kinder moulded fi gures
are perfect for shoppers looking to pick up a range of smaller treats. Achieving £1.5M in its launch last year, the Kinder Bueno Advent Calendar quickly became the number one NPD within advent calendars and made a return to support retailers in offering shoppers more choice in the lead up to Christmas day.
