LCF Speaker Profile

LONDON CHOCOLATE FORUM SPECIAL

“The London Chocolate forum is one of my favourite events as it’s a great opportunity to meet experts in the industry, hear about innovative ingredients and share knowledge”

Understanding HFSS restrictions and reformulation guidelines

Louise Allen, Senior Executive of Diet and Health at the Food and Drink Federation will present Government diet and health policy in the UK as a keynote speaker at the LCF 2023

Tell us about your career history and a bit about you!

LA: Throughout my 20 years at the Food and Drink Federation, I have worked with a variety of companies from all food sectors. My role as Senior Diet and Health Executive includes looking at the science behind the headlines, and helping in the development, implementation and promotion of FDF’s policies in this area. I am secretary to FDF’s Diet and Health Committee and play an active role on FDF’s healthy workplace forum. I’m a self-confessed chocoholic and avid baker so I’m delighted to be invited to speak at this event and look forward to learning more about my favourite food!

Why the FDF?

CF: The Food and Drink Federation is the voice of the UK food and drink manufacturing sector, bringing together business, government and stakeholders to ensure our manufacturers have the right conditions to grow, invest and employ, while continuing to produce high quality, nutritious and affordable food and drink. We are based in London and have more than 1000 members – from the most recognisable global brands to the most innovative start-ups. I’ve worked in the regulatory affairs team at the FDF for

20 years. It’s a fascinating role which includes looking at the science behind the headlines, and helping in the development,

implementation and promotion of FDF’s diet and health policies. My work involves communication with a range of policy makers, academics and NGOs across and beyond the UK. I also work closely with our members to help them interpret regulation, most recently advising on the scope of the promotional restrictions in England, and training on how to calculate a nutrient profi ling score.

What will you cover at the London Chocolate Forum?

LA: My presentation will focus on Government diet and health policy in the UK, including HFSS restrictions and reformulation guidelines. It will also touch on the current media trend for using the term ‘ultra-processed food’ and why this term is problematic. The London Chocolate forum is one of my favourite events

as it’s a great opportunity to meet experts in the industry, hear about innovative ingredients and share knowledge. I’m also a huge fan of chocolate so this is the perfect event for me!

A fun fact?

LA: When I’m not working, I enjoy actively performing with my local Rock Choir and also like to bake cakes and brownies for my family.
