Left: Philips Hue Play WiZ Festoon Lights from 4lite Tech giant Google has also recently

introduced its latest Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen - pictured on opposite page), calling it “our smartest and most beautiful thermostat yet”, and it’s using its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, called Gemini, to boost Google Home’s services and user-friendliness. The new Nest Learning Thermostat uses AI to automatically make micro-adjustments based on users’ lifestyle patterns. With Smart Schedule, the thermostat learns which temperatures users choose most often, or changes in behaviour based on motion detected in the home, and automatically adjusts the temperature schedule to match. Not only that, but it also analyses if outdoor weather conditions will affect indoor temperatures. For example, if it’s a sunny Winter day and your home gets warmer on its own, it will pause heating and adjust accordingly. Of course, everything can be controlled by voice or via the Google Home app, and because the Nest Learning Thermostat is Matter-certified, users can also control it with other Matter- compatible smart home apps and devices.

and Philips has the Hue Go Portable Table Lamp and the Gradient Signe Floor Lamp. And launched earlier this year, the Philips Hue Dymera wall light (right) offers individual control over two beams of light that shine up and down; it’s suitable for both indoors and outdoors and, using the Philips Hue app, each light can be dimmed, brightened or colour changed individually. For those still clinging on to Summer, the outdoor lighting segment is also growing rapidly with a wide selection of both decorative and functional lights and bulbs to customise garden spaces. One such example is the brand new Smart Colour Changing WiZ Festoon Lights, available from 4lite. They offer more than 16 million colour combinations, as well as tuneable white and dynamic modes, and the new SpaceSense smart feature uses Wi-Fi signals in the home to activate motion sensor technology, so the luminaires will automatically turn on when someone walks by. Let there be light! On a dark Winter’s night, you don’t just need heat, you also need light. And this sector is even more vast with a huge amount of smart lighting solutions on the market. It’s no secret that Philips Hue and WiZ – both owned by Signify – are massive players in the industry with ever-expanding ranges of smart bulbs, smart lights and smart sensors…

For example, lightstrips – Philips offers both indoor and outdoor options, while WiZ’s are indoor only. Then there are portable lamps; WiZ has the Squire Table Lamp (right) and the Portrait Desk Lamp,

there, the Home Monitoring functionality has also recently been added to 4lite’s WiZ smart lighting; users can activate presence simulation in the home or garden or set up a reaction light mode which would cause illumination in the event of an intrusion. ERT talks to Anthony Formisano, Product Manager at 4lite. He says: “With more responsive and adaptable product features now, manufacturers are helping consumers reduce their energy consumption and therefore their carbon footprint. But not only that, lighting is becoming more intuitive and user-friendly thanks to the integration of smart technology with other advanced technologies such as motion sensors.”

Mr Formisano believes that retail stores are the perfect environment to demonstrate and bring smart lighting to life: “It can be as simple as a smart bulb in a ceiling pendant, or a collection of outdoor festoon lights to create a cosy atmosphere, connecting these to an app or by activating demo mode will help convey to customers the simple installation process and the user-friendly benefits.”

Alongside outdoor lighting, security cameras can also help keep consumers’ homes protected. And smartening up its range of home security cameras is Swann; included in its latest range is its AllSecure4K+ Wireless Security Kit, SwannBuddy4K Wireless Video Doorbell, Xtreem4K Wireless Camera with Spotlights (pictured above), and Floodlight 4K Powered Wi-Fi Security Camera. >>
