According to the Global E-Waste Monitor, 62 million tonnes of e-waste was generated globally in 2022. Not only has this figure almost doubled since 2010, but it is expected to continue rising, with an estimated 82 million tonnes projected to be generated annually by 2030. These numbers reflect the way we live our lives in the modern age, with a growing dependence on digital devices, electronics, and household appliances. As such, e-waste is ever growing due to the discarding of working appliances that could easily have been fixed instead of thrown away and added to landfill.

ounded in 1969, Connect has been at the heart of the appliance repair industry for over half a century. With humble beginnings in Birmingham, Connect has grown over the decades to become the largest independent distributor of appliance spare parts across the UK and Europe. Bought by Screwfix in 2023, Connect has

strengthened its position and continues to provide spare parts to repair retailers and independent repair professionals alike to keep appliances running. Offering access to 1.7 million parts for over 500 appliance brands, with over 1.5 million orders placed annually, Connect is deeply integrated in the spare parts and repair industry with a network of over 400 repair professionals as part of its Repaircare repair service. By offering what’s needed for appliance owners to get their appliances fixed – whether by calling professionals or finding the parts in retails stores for themselves – Connect is proud to champion the message of ‘repair, don’t replace’ and the benefits this has on sustainability.

Repair don’t replace That’s where Connect comes in. By providing repair professionals and retailers the parts needed to keep appliances working, they are challenging the throwaway culture that’s prevalent in our society and combatting the growing e-waste problem, one appliance at a time.

Not only does fixing appliances keep them running for longer and prevent e-waste from piling up in landfills, but it also shows appliance owners that repairing over replacing is more affordable and, most importantly, more sustainable than buying new appliances every time an older (but perfectly fixable) one develops a simple fault.

Connect is also supporting its customers and

improving sustainability through its own brand, Electruepart. The Electruepart range consists of spare parts that are compatible with many appliances by top brands for lower prices, with 1725 lines to choose from. With Electruepart, repair professionals and retailers now have the means to fix appliances more affordably for

their customers, all whilst still guaranteeing high quality and reliability with every part. The company is also increasing their marketing communications to promote their Repair, Don’t Replace proposition, even doing their part internally with employees working alongside partners to support International Repair Day and International E-Waste Day. To celebrate International Repair Day on 19 October, Connect plans to encourage everyone across the business to share their repair stories on social media with the hashtag #shareyourrepair, demonstrating how fixable many appliances are and encouraging all to choose repairing over replacing. Connect will also be internally supporting

International E-Waste Day on 14 October alongside Material Focus, who are aiming to donate a million unwanted cables for recycling with their ‘The Great Cable Challenge’ initiative. As such, Connect will be inviting its employees to donate their own cables to this worthy cause. So, if you are a repair professional or retailer in need of appliance parts, don’t miss all that Connect has to offer. As an incentive, they are offering new customers an impressive 20% off their first order, helping to make appliance repairs even more affordable. Visit Connect online today, sign up, and together we can show the world that repairing over replacing truly is the way forwards.
