ANALYSIS: ECO APPLIANCES Home Appliances

Climate conscious

Many consumers now cite sustainability as a key attribute they look for in the

appliances they buy. Research indicates over half of consumers consider themselves climate conscious and

believe they can have a positive impact on the environment. White goods technology is constantly evolving and

retailers can help educate and develop consumers’ eco-consciousness. Jack Cheeseman reports.

Additional functions such as AutoDose ensure that just the right

amount of detergent is allowed into a wash cycle, allowing clothes to last for longer, thereby reducing the impact on the environment via landfills. Also, the newly-launched award-winning AX5 and AX7 Air

Purifiers are made using recycled plastic from PET bottles. “We take a lot of pride in the way our appliances have helped

shape millions of people’s lives for the better,” continues Mr Harding. “We have a tremendous opportunity to eliminate barriers and help our consumers make sustainable choices. By improving our operations, which partnerships we enter, the community initiatives we support, and the products and solutions we develop, Electrolux will always continue to develop product innovations that allow people to live more sustainably.”

“Electrolux is committed to keeping sustainability a key business area focus in the coming decade,” says Luke Harding, General Manager UK and Ireland. “It is such an intrinsic part of our core, our operations and commitments in the UK alongside our appliances across AEG and Zanussi reflect this goal.” Intelligent technology built into induction hobs from Electrolux

ensure efficient energy usage, through features such as SenseBoil. This detects rising bubbles in boiling water and then automatically reduces the heat on the hob to ensure that the water doesn’t boil over. Elsewhere, the SoftWater technology in the AEG 9000 washing

machines (right, plus tumble dryer) cleans and softens the water before it gets into the drum, so that detergents work optimally and washing cycles can be carried out at 30 degrees instead of 60.
