EDITOR’S COMMENT Matt Broughton

Say hello, wave goodbye I

should probably have introduced myself sooner, but I’ve been busy looking after ERT in the wake of previous Editor, Jack Cheesman’s departure. Hello, I’m Matt, and I’ve secretly been your Editor… but only for two issues! Jack has moved on to exciting new projects, so I’ve been beavering away behind the scenes to keep juicy ERT content coming your way.

The good news for you lucky people is that Assistant Editor, Will McGill, is stepping up to take the big seat, so from next month you’ll have a new captain piloting the good ship ERT! For me, good electronics is about nailing a

user’s needs and solving that problem in a smart, instant way, while looking as good as possible (and no, I’m not just talking about myself again!)

I’ve been a fan of tech since the Walkman made it possible to wash my dad’s car while still listening to music (yes, I’m THAT old) and, as an adult, that love has transferred to almost every part of my life. These days I’ve upgraded from a Walkman to Airpods connected to EVERYTHING thanks to my smart phone and constant internet connectivity. In my kitchen I have gadgets galore, from air fryers to smoothie makers to coffee machines… and everything in between (there can never be too much tech as far as I’m concerned). I’m also an occasionally jobbing musician, so you can only image the amount of electronics piled up behind me as I write from my office/practice room. Beyond my pointless ramblings here, we have an excellent issue for you. There’s a mild ‘Retro’

theme going on, as we look at some kitchen appliances that appear to have stood the test of time, bringing modern functionality into homes with a distinctly retro look. We also have a feature picking the entire retro revolution apart, so be sure to look up Daniel Todaro’s article.

I won’t turn this chat into a contents page, but

let’s just say it’s been an absolute pleasure briefly taking care of ERT.

Enjoy your tech, enjoy life, and enjoy Will! Be seeing you.

Matt
