Shopfloor FOCUS: TRAINING
A meeting of minds

There’s never been a more important time for the UK hi-fi industry to come together. The Clarity Conference, on June 9, offers business owners, retailers and manufacturers a unique chance to network, share insights, and discover new opportunities.
There’s nothing like a collective of like-minded people to help focus thoughts, ideas, plans and explore opportunities. Such a collective comes together every year at the Clarity Conference – the UK hi-fi industry’s only annual conference, presented by the industry trade association, with this year’s event taking place on June 9, at the stunning Dolby Screening Room in London’s Soho. Networking is one of the most powerful activities that business owners and managers can participate in – learning from others, sharing information and working through the issues facing their business. It’s all too easy to find yourself closeted away if you’re running a hi-fi shop for example, finding it hard to make time to get out and mix with others in similar businesses.
When you do make the time to network it’s often comforting to know that you’re not alone. That’s particularly true in tough times, when sales are lagging – chances are it’s not you that’s doing anything wrong, but something being experienced by others too. And today are tough times for hi-fi and other luxury goods sectors – when mortgage rates are high, utility bills rising and there’s a lot of consumer uncertainty around, the sales of ‘nice to haves’ tend to suffer. On the flip side though, there are some really good opportunities out
there – it’s just a case of tapping into them and working out how to explore them within your business. That’s why the Clarity Conference always features a number of guest speakers who present on topics designed to give you food for thought. For example, our friends at GfK will present a roundup of the market trends over the past year that demonstrate what’s doing well and what’s perhaps on the wane. It’s a great aid for business planning and focusing on potential new areas to explore, and something you can chat over with your fellow delegates during the coffee breaks.
As a first this year, we’re running a panel discussion with industry
figures exploring some pertinent questions, such as: “Where do we see the hi-fi industry going?”; “What are the challenges we face?”; “What do we need to do to adapt?”; “How can we reach consumers who are used to lower resolution music?”
Better together
Clarity exists to help the industry work together, with a simple philosophy that believes an industry facing extensive competition, from multiple different pulls on consumers’ wallets, can do better if it works together and grasps the opportunities that do come our way. For example, the resurgence in vinyl – we’ve all seen the stats on vinyl sales and the number of new turntables coming to market. Or the rise in high-performance, but affordable, audio streaming systems from some of the biggest names, such as KEF or Wiim – proving that great-sounding hi-fi doesn’t have to have stratospheric price tags. Products like these present a new revenue path for retailers to follow – maybe you don’t currently deal in audio, or you’re an established hi-fi shop – either way, it’s a market that is still packed full of new tech (or very new old tech in the case of turntables) and new brands that are emerging. We’d love to tell you more about what we do, so why not join us at the
conference on 9th June and find out for yourself how strength in numbers and a pooling of resources and ideas could help your business?
Follow this link to get your ticket and if you’re not a Clarity member the ticket price of just £25+vat is refunded if you decide to join within a month of the conference.
