During July’s heatwaves ERT heard from a growing number of electrical retailers who said they were struggling to keep up with soaring demand for cooling products as temperatures continue to climb across the UK. One independent retailer told ERT that customers


had been fighting over the last remaining fan in store, while another said they had a lengthy waiting list of


customers all asking for the same thing: “Get me anything you’ve got” to help keep them cool. Currys CEO Alex Baldock said cooling products had


been “flying off the shelves” throughout June’s record- breaking heat, with fan sales jumping by almost 3,000 per cent over the latest heatwave weekend compared with the previous weekend. Sales of portable air conditioning units also rose by 330 per cent.

Samsung Electronics UK appoints new Head of Division for Home Appliances


Samsung Electronics has announced the appointment of Johnathan Marsh as Head of Division for Home Appliances in the UK and Ireland, within its Home Entertainment and Appliances (HEA) division. He joins with


Dr. Stefan Breit, Executive Director Technology at the Miele Group, will step down from his position next year. After 20 years with the company and 11 years on the Executive Board, he will leave his role in the summer of 2027, upon turning 60. Miele is announcing the change more than a year


in advance in order to carefully plan the succession process and ensure an orderly handover of


more than 25 years of experience across some of the UK’s most respected omnichannel retailers, including John Lewis, Currys and Dunelm, where he held senior leadership roles spanning consumer electronics and the home. As Head of Division for Home Appliances, he will


lead the overall performance and strategic direction of the Home Appliances business across the UK and Ireland. His immediate priorities include strengthening


departmental responsibilities. This approach builds on the company’s established practice of managing leadership transitions in good time, in an orderly manner and with a forward-looking approach. Until his departure, Dr. Breit will retain full responsibility


for the company’s technological development, working alongside the management team. All current and scheduled projects, including the product and innovation roadmap, will continue as planned.


The Appliance Store opens new Burnley showroom


Independent electrical retailer The Appliance Store has opened a new, larger showroom in Burnley, marking the next stage in the company’s growth. Located at Unit 8a, Empire Business Park, Enterprise Way, the new premises provide expanded space to showcase the retailer’s range of domestic appliances while enhancing the customer experience. To celebrate the opening, The Appliance Store


hosted a community open day, welcoming customers and local residents to tour the new showroom while raising money for two Lancashire charities – Healthier Heroes and Curry On The Street. The event featured family-friendly activities,
