consumers who desire the more understated and natural kitchen designs that fit well with natural materials such as, wood and stone. There is no compromising on style as Karki explains: “To support a coordinated look, we have also introduced integrated design hoods and box hoods with matching matt coatings, creating a consistent cooking and ventilation aesthetic.”
Post-purchase satisfaction Evolving trends are heavily influenced by design preferences, with consumers prioritising the style above other factors. Performance is therefore rarely considered by consumers and many underestimate its importance when choosing a cooker hood. This contributes to the misconceptions surrounding cooker hoods. “A common misconception is that hoods are the worst part of the kitchen that are noisy and ineffective.”, says Roper. “Interestingly, while it’s one of the least considered appliance, it’s arguably one of the most important, especially because when you have a cooker hood that doesn’t work well, you really notice it.”. When it comes to ventilation, a product that
doesn’t perform well is immediately obvious and poor performing cooker hood can dramatically impact the cooking experience. However, many consumers are unaware of how their ventilation choice will impact them. Research conducted by BSH supports this sentiment. In a survey of 2,000 respondents, nearly two thirds of people wished their current cooker hood was quieter, which shows how central appliance noise levels are for consumers. What’s more, almost all the respondents said they would be willing to spend more on a hood next time. Surprisingly, around half of the people surveyed admitted that they routinely open windows and doors while cooking in addition to using their extractor.
“Our research demonstrates a disconnect between consumer expectations and long- term satisfaction when it comes to ventilation”, explains Roper. “Consumers have a lot of regrets about the cooker hood choice and wish they had given more consideration to the performance capabilities of higher-end models. For us, this reinforces just how important it is to guide consumers through the full range of options to support them in making an informed choice that suits their needs.”
Something consumers often may not consider when choosing a ventilation solution is the filters within their chosen appliance. BSH have given their previous filters a makeover with the new Long-life clean air filter that is currently available on the new Integrated Design and Decorative box hoods.
The new filter has been designed to deliver
