With household bills still high and sustainability now front-of-mind, shoppers are demanding appliances that save energy, last longer, and work smarter. ERT finds out more from leading brands about the latest eco innovations.

E

nergy efficiency is no longer simply a selling point for appliances, for many shoppers, it has become a deciding factor in whether they will even consider a product. With household

bills remaining high and sustainability climbing steadily up the public agenda, consumers are actively seeking out appliances that use less energy, last longer, and deliver smarter, more flexible performance. While the appetite for efficiency is clear, the level of consumer knowledge still has room to grow. Recent research suggests that around 42 per cent of bill payers do not actually know how much energy their appliances consume, despite the fact that upgrading to more efficient models can cut usage by as much as 20 per cent. The UK home appliance market continues to grow steadily and is projected to exceed £12 billion in value by 2030, with much of that growth driven by demand for models that offer energy-saving credentials alongside advanced features and strong design.

In a market where appliance technology is evolving rapidly, from A-rated dishwashers and heat pump tumble dryers to connected fridges designed to reduce food waste, the opportunities for retailers to guide and influence purchasing decisions are significant.

Eco logic Electrolux continues to place efficiency at the centre of its product design across laundry, cooking and dishwashing categories, particularly through its AEG brand. Nick Stacey, Electrical Retail Channel Head at Electrolux Group, notes the consumer drive: “93 per cent of consumers are actively looking to reduce their energy use, and 88 per cent expect brands to support more sustainable living. Our product design is focused on meeting that demand with efficient, high- performance appliances.”

In cooking, the AEG 6000 Bridge SaphirMatt Induction Hob offers rapid, energy-efficient heating with a surface four times more scratch- resistant than standard glass. Its AEG 8000 Series SteamPro Oven, rated A++, uses advanced steam technology to retain up to 90 per cent of a food’s vitamins, while the CookSmart Touch interface on new AEG ovens incorporates energy-conscious functions such as EcoPreheat and Residual Heat.
