GDHA: PETER SPENCER THE ERT INTERVIEW

14

‘W‘We are back’ e are back’

New Managing Director Peter Spencer chats to Will McGill about his ambitions for Glen Dimplex Home Appliances – from revitalising the Belling and Stoves brands to championing innovation, sustainability, and forging stronger partnerships with retailers.

G

len Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) is entering a bold new chapter with the appointment of Peter Spencer as its new Managing Director, a move that

signals the company’s renewed ambition to lead through brand strength, customer focus, and transformative innovation. Mr Spencer, who joined GDHA in March, brings a wealth of senior leadership experience, most recently from Electrolux, and a sharp eye for driving commercial growth through meaningful partnerships and customer-first strategies. His arrival marks a clear turning point for the business, as it sets out to reposition its much-loved Stoves and Belling brands at the forefront of the UK cooking appliance market. At the time of the announcement, Mr Spencer said: “We have an ambitious vision for GDHA. It prioritises the branded consumer product experience and journey in every decision we make, from design and functionality through to the aftermarket experience and recognises the vital retail partner relationships required.

“I’m excited to work with the team to build on our recent progress and drive further commercial success, ensuring we deliver exceptional experiences for our customers.” The company has also appointed a new manufacturing partner and has invested heavily in bespoke tooling to recently launch a suite of new products under its Stoves and Belling brands. The business has relocated its UK head office to new premises on the Birchwood Science Park, Warrington. “What immediately drew me to Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) was the strength of its brands, Belling and Stoves,” Mr Spencer says. “Belling is a household institution, synonymous with quality cooking, with more than a century of innovation and an impressive number of ‘firsts’ to its name.

“Stoves, too, has a long history of innovation, a loyal fanbase, and premium products. Both brands come with strong foundations, consumer goodwill and bags of potential. “Right now, GDHA is embarking on perhaps the most significant transformation in its history.

We’re not just making incremental changes, we are reshaping and building the business for the future.”

He highlighted that this involves a comprehensive re- evaluation of the businesses strategies,

processes and market approach to ensure it isn’t just competitive but is instead leading the charge in innovation and customer engagement.

“I love the appliance sector, it’s tough but exciting,” explains Mr Spencer. “My senior experience, particularly at Electrolux, has provided a clear perspective on success drivers. A significant shift for GDHA will be focusing on product opportunities that are relevant and profitable for both the market and customer. This means moving beyond the previous emphasis on factory optimisation – efficiency of course remains important, but it won’t be the sole driver.

“My experience has taught me that the customer must be at the core of every decision. This means being truly customer-focused in our go-to-market strategy, working closely with, understanding, and actively responding to our retail partners’ requirements. Their success is ours, so we have to understand their operational challenges and specific needs. Building strong, collaborative relationships is essential.”
